Great hotel which could and should be much better!
Bill Ton 23/07/2017 15:30Arriving at the hotel we were immediately impressed by the grand entrance and the friendly and helpful staff. We checked in quickly and admired the beautiful lounge and dining room which can be seen from the foyer. We were then shown to a beautiful room which was almost a suite with huge bedroom, luxury bathroom and sitting room. Two widescreen TV's were available and free wifi. All so far so good. However, there are a couple of major downsides. Firstly the advertised air conditioning is almost non existent. Like so many hotels across Europe it is inefficient to the point of uselessness. Despite the setting being on 5 degrees when we arrived and using maximum fan the unit puts out the equivalent of an asthmatic leprechaun. Not much better than a fan and not much colder. Eventually we had to open the window or sleep would have been impossible in a very hot room. This is not satisfactory for a hotel aspiring to 5 stars. Worst was yet to come however. The breakfast is, by most hotel standards, pathetic. No hot food whatever, There are a few extras, all of which have to be paid for, but still no hot food other than eggs. This choice would cost just under £25 - a lot for a cold breakfast, This too is just not satisfactory. Have you never heard of the great British breakfast, or the all American breakfast? Many hotels much cheaper than yours provide these as standard.We have just come from another hotel which charges half the room rate of the Royal yet provide significantly better breakfasts including hot food as standard. For a hotel of this class and price to supply only cold food is a great disappointment. Furthermore the cold food was also disappointing. Just the usual boring supply of cheese and meat, this time however, only one choice of cheese and only one meat, ham, though this turned out to be turkey. I am not impressed and would not return.
near main train station
4XLoon 19/07/2017 20:47Good clean hotel near train station which is about 10mins walk, WHilst we did not eat at the restaurant they offer discounts at all the Manotel hotel restaurants in the area(there are about 5 of them).
Hotel lobby is welcoming with plush sofas and the room itself is also nicely decorated and comfortable and a reasonable size. Usual standard of toiletries. There is a tiny gym and small spa/steam room.
recommended if you need to be near the station and it is also 15mins walk to the lake although a bit further for the old town.
They give you a free travel card for your stay which is great.
Beyond our expectations
fkmelbourneon 10/07/2017 13:54This hotel is located close to the main train station and within walking distance to Lake Geneva and other tourist attractions.
The interior decor is classic and stylish. The room was spacious, with a great deal of furnishings and paintings. There were three cupboards in our room and a lovely large ensuite.
The hotel offers continental breakfast which was more than adequate. The restaurant staff are efficient and professional but I must say the manager could be a little more friendly to her international guests.
The staff at the reception were most friendly and welcoming. They gave us the travel pass upon our arrival and gave us very helpful tips on the best tourist attractions.
We must say a huge thank you to Roberta and Denis who very kindly retrieve a pen which we had left in the safe.
The hotel is great. We would definitely recommend it and will definitely stay there again in future, hopefully with a room above the 2nd floor.
All front, nothing behind
Carol Won 07/07/2017 21:39We booked, eventually, into this hotel as our last night in Switzerland. All the publicrooms looked the part, but on getting to our room, we discovered that it was a smoking rooms and as we were on the first floor, overlooking the street, even leaving the window open was not an option. The general ambience backstage really could do with a refurb. The meal in the Bistro was good, but not cheap.
Not Royal at all...
Kulin Son 05/07/2017 23:58Stayed here for 1 Night as next day morning we have a morning. We booked premium rooms and chose to stay at this hotel for its location and being 4 Star with Air-conditioning.
Sorry but the hotel was sub standard, lethargic check in process, dark room decor was a big minus.
Changed rooms 3 times as the AC was not working.
Needs to be re-rated to a 2 Star instead of 4 Star.
If you are looking to stay at this hotel you better be prepared for surprises.
