Hotel San Carlos "is what it is". Although not a fancy joint, for a small motel-like accommodation, it was just fine for an overnight while I was awaiting someone coming into SFO the next day. Like others have said, the room was clean and spacious, but best of all for me, was the staff: the front office gentleman VERY accommodating by giving me my room key right away so that I could scoot up there for the bathroom. Also, one of the maintenance staff offered to help me with my bags - very nice! So - as long as you don't have high expectations for this as a "hotel", you might like this place very much - I did!

Located in a hillside of San Carlos, the lot is terraced. The rear parking lot will require some navigating of a rather steep slope. There are railroad tracks nearby and I heard a train once.
Breakfast was similar to other budget hotels.
Staff was friendly.

This small hotel/motel is close to the direct rail link to the centre of San Francisco and the airport. The hotel is also on the main road to Silicon Valley.The room are large and the bed very comfortable.It is a very clean establishment.

limited breakfast - comfortable bed & A/C - quiet room (was given a room in back corner of the property) except for when the person in room above us walked across his room - location was within walking distance of a few places to eat

We needed a safe place to crash for a night, not to far from SFO, and didn't want to spend a fortune. BINGO! But we were surprised how nice the rooms were once we opened the door. It was clean, quiet and the bed super comfy. Bummer we only spent 1 night there. Would recommend.
