What People are saying

A very relaxing and exciting holiday

Annoula_10on 08/03/2017 14:45

We had never stayed in a Ferien Verein hotel before. It's Switzerland and so it's NOT inexpensive AND it's a family skiing holiday in the school holidays!!!

We very much enjoyed the food on offer. The evening menu is limited and sometimes a set menu but if you are open to trying anything it's really very good quality. Some of the meals were excellent. Fillet steak, duck, salads and homemade desserts. One evening we paid an extra supplement for a divine T-bone steak. You do not have to eat at the hotel in the evening if you give notice and you receive a Chf25.- refund per full paying guest per meal. The service at mealtimes was excellent and we would particularly like to thank Martin, who was a perfect host at all times.

The hotel is perfectly situated (we felt like everything was on our doorstep) for the free ski bus, walks through the Fex Valley, La Passarella restaurant (fantastic Flammkuchen), Nietzsche's house, bus stop for all connections to Corvatsch and St Moritz and the very expensive but incredible pony and carriage rides (we haggled and it worked). Best advice is to walk up the Fex Valley all the way to Hotel Fex and beyond and haggle for a trip back to Hotel Schweizerhof. We paid Chf50.- for two adults and the trip took about 50 minutes.

The pools (not very big and can be busy with children after skiing day and begore dinner @ 18.30h) and sauna area are simple but as clean and organised as you would expect in CH. Saunas were small but perfect and my husband and I managed to have a good sauna every day. Outdoor sauna is really exhilarating when you come out into snow. You are not supposed to wear any swimming costumes in the saunas. Towels only. The only disappointing spa experience for me was the very average aromatherapy massage. I was disappointed with the lack of cleanliness in the massage treatment room. The floor and underside of the massage table, which I stared at through the hole in in the massage bed for 30 minutes, were rather dusty and grubby.

My husband and children had a fantastic skiing and snowboarding experience here. Good storage for equipment and ease of use of the transport. Walking and cross-country skiing opportunities are exceptional. 90km of cross-country on the lakes alone, I think.

There is so much to do. We experienced lake hiking; watching the World Freestyle Skiing Championships (a lucky coincidence); Friday night skiing under floodlights from 19h in Corvatsch (NO bus service to get us to Corvatsch at 18h and so I went to ask what we could do and the very friendly, kind and hardworking hotel manager, Herr Nico Röthlisberger , said he would drive us to Corvatsch himself!!! Really above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you Nico! It was an amazing night. If you are skiing with children it is advisable to go earlier as the speeds of participants pick up as the evening progresses, as can alcohol consumption.); walking up for a dinner at Kuhstall (very pricey, food good but what an experience) with sledges under a gaslamp lit path and sledging home at 22h (kids loved it); playing billiards and pinball and air hockey every evening.....we really enjoyed our family evenings and early nights in bed.

Room was a gallery room on fifth floor with a balcony. The stairs inside the room are incredibly narrow and steep. Noteworthy.

Would we do it all again? Yes. Maybe no massage for me next time. It was an action packed, relaxing and special holiday in a stunning location. You can do as much or as little as you want.

Fine and well managed

After two years back in the Schweizer Hof in Sils Maria. With its fine salt water pool, free outside sauna, free wifi, well located in a fine mountain area, it is for years one of my favourite places.
The rooms are a bit small, but well equipped. The managers Mrs. and Mr. Röthlisberger are friendly people, as is the staff, who know how to keep a hotel in good shape. This year we even got sun protection fluid in the bath room. Bravo.
Good breakfast, good dinners. My only complaint would be their very strange ‘water with your dinner arrangement’ that might have the outcome that you have to pay firmly for just some tap water. We know hotels in the region with a higher ranking where they serve you tap water just for free. So, my advice: reconsider your ‘water with your dinner arrangement’ Mrs. Katharina and Mr. Nico Röthlisberger. But summing up: you do a fine job.

unsuitable for independent travellers

This hotel appears to cater for groups and families with young children. The bar is unusable by adults. Very limited choice of food in the evening. One vegetarian option but otherwise take it or leave it. In my opinion it's a mass market experience.

Generally good, a few disappointments

I stayed in a single room for four days in July with some friends, who were in a double room. The single room was small, but okay. I liked the new modern bathroom and the comfort of the somewhat wider single bed. But there are not many options for sitting comfortably. There is a chair that you can use when you're sitting at the small table. Unfortunately, the plastic chair on the small balcony was very uncomfortable. The balcony was not very inviting in terms of finding a place to relax and put your feet up. Otherwise, I was quite happy with the hotel and service. There was an adequate range and variety of food for breakfast and dinner, including vegetarian options. The landscape is quite spectacular and wonderful for hiking.

Family hotel with lots of amenities

This is a large hotel in a fairyland setting.A group of us (9) stayed here for 9 nights for the X-country skiing and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and closeness to all we wanted. The hotel staff have clearly lifted their game since some of the earlier reviews and extensive renovations and we were treated well. The rooms were comfortable and the food generally good. With half-board we had a variety of meals and options - we had fondu one night in Fex, arriving by horse and cart (extra cost) and several interesting smorgasbord meals. The hefty markup makes the wine expensive. There are two dining areas and the sun room is much better for an extra 5 Fr/d. A big bonus of the hotel is the warm pool facilities with jacuzzi, sauna and salt pools to revive in after a day of skiing. The hotel tries to attract families and so the pools were crowded sometimes with many children doing what they do but it's not hard to time your swim for other times. The hotel is located in a postcard setting and just off the ski trails and far enough away from St Moritz to be in a different world (you can never be far enough) but with frequent buses throughout the valley. Value for money anywhere in Switzerland is relative.
