What People are saying
Expensive for what it is.
Whilboroon 25/07/2013 11:55First the positives: The room was very clean. The reception staff were helpful. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. But the negatives: the room was VERY small. The whole room, cupboard and bathroom was about 10 x 8 feet. The room just held a double bed that had to be climbed over to reach the windows. Per square metre it was considerably more expensive than the 4 star hotel I had stayed in the night before. The breakfast was dreadful - bread, cheese, (poor quality) salami, coffee from a machine with no taste at all and artificial orange juice. No air conditioning and only one window that opened. In fairness all I wanted was a place to sleep and shower and I got what it said on the tin but value wise, pound for pound, I think I will stay elsewhere next time.
Great position
carrie95on 10/09/2012 21:52Just returned from a 3 night stay at this Hotel. My son and I had two of the rooms at the front.Mine was slightly larger but his had a tiny balcony. The rooms were small,or in his case, very small doubles but they were very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was very small but clean.there wasn't much noise from passing traffic. We had breakfast on our first morning but didn't bother again as it was cereal, cheese, ham, conserves and bread.Croissants or choc au pains would have been nice.
The Sfinx is in an excellent postion, just behind the main shopping area,a few minutes from the beach and loads of restaurants.Try the Green Dog for food.
Parking was a bit of a problem,to put it mildly! My son had parked the car a fair walk from the hotel,in a disabled bay-I have a blue badge. He checked with a traffic warden that it was ok to leave the car overnight and was told yes.The next morning we went for a stroll before breakfast and saw a market was being set out,so headed for it.My son was staring to look worried and suddenly said"my car has gone!" He was sure he had parked it there and when we asked a stall holder, they said we had to go to the police as it had been towed away! We found the police station but it didn't open until 9am so we had to wait around and when they opened, they said the car had been removed because of the market.
This was really upsetting as I never thought anyone would tow away a car with a blue badge. We had no idea about the market. We had to go on the tram, then a long walk to get the car and it cost 120 euros.I was frightened to leave the car anywhere after that.
Great value
Adrenalinejunkie33on 28/02/2012 22:45We stopped here one night in February. We didnt expect much as it was really cheap but were really impressed for the money. We had a family room on the top floor of the hotel. Two bedrooms, and i thought the bed was very comfy! It is small but comfy and clean. The shower cubicle is small, not a problem for us. The hotel is ideally loacted. It is just off the beach, which is beautiful, and next to the Coast Tram station. The coast tram takes you right along the coast up to Holland. Breakfast was fine, considering how cheap it was. Hotel staff were lovely. I would stay here again for a few nights.
More space in a tent and well over priced!
1AnnaTon 01/05/2011 21:30Although the hotel was clean and central to De Panne the rooms are TINY and the bathroom about the size of a changing cubicle! Stupidly expensive, dearer than 4* hotels in Brugge! Breakfast was pathetic, no parking available and no other services on offer.
