Five star views and friendly staff
Walters_10on 18/08/2017 12:39This hotel has the best views in the up-and-coming Lapad area and we loved looking across the bay and out to sea as we dined or had breakfast. A particularly big thank you to Lucie and Anica for looking after us, and all staff were friendly and attentive.
There is no pool, but we always found space to sunbathe on the beach at the foot of the hotel grounds, where you mix in with locals and visitors alike. The sea is really clear and good fun. There is an area where you can hire a sunbed from the hotel, but we felt 110kn per day (£13) for two was excessive.
The bus service to the old town is frequent and reliable. We walked the city walls, went on the cable car and also visited the island of Lukrom (buying tickets at the old town harbour). We had two day trips - Mostar and Krevice Falls (cheaper via an operator in the old town 300kn each) and Montenegro (Gullivers Travels via Thomson 420kn each). The pick up point is at the bus stop near the nearby Adriatic Hotel.
The Lapad strip is a short walk away with a range of bars and restaurants. The prices of drinks and food are much better than in the old town and we liked the balance of being able to relax in Lapad, but easily visit the old town when we wanted to. The old town at night is quite different to what it is like in the day time, so well worth a visit later on.
One improvement the hotel could make would be to have draught beers rather than just bottles in the restaurant. The beach bar had it, but not the main hotel.
Overall we loved our holiday here and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel.
Excelent restaurant

Booked a sea view room but to be honest we could barely see the sea from our balcony and when I enquired was told it was a standard sea view room. Rooms were clean and linen & towels changed daily. Had to pay for sun lounger on the attached beach. Grand stopover but nothing special, wouldnt advise paying extra for sea view room as ours was a let down.
A lovely, relaxing break
aliceer2403on 03/08/2017 18:22We spent three nights at Hotel Splendid in July. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The hotel is run by friendly and welcoming staff who aim to help in any way they can and the beach and bar / restaurant areas are fantastic, peaceful places to unwind.
The "beach" is made up of concrete and pebbles mainly, but it is still a lovely, picturesque place to relax. The water is clean, crystal clear and lovely to swim in.
Whilst the hotel rooms are very basic and quite old-fashioned (a revamp is needed!) and there is no lift, the view from our balcony and the general facilities at the hotel more than made up for this. However, the wifi was, unfortunately, temperamental and did not work very well in our room (we were on the third floor).
Our room was a reasonable size, with a large balcony area. The bathroom is small and the shower facilities aren't the best and the extra long shower curtain was rather annoying.
The food menu is quite basic also but we ate in the restaurant a couple of evenings and what we asked for arrived quickly and was tasty. Breakfast is also basic, but enjoyable. The staff who work during the breakfast time-frame are friendly and helpful.
The hotel setting is beautiful. The Lapad bay is absolutely stunning and the old town is easily reachable by bus (10-15 minutes (depending on traffic) and the buses run every fifteen minutes). The bus stop is conveniently located just outside the hotel's main entrance.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we may well return in the future. I would recommend Hotel Splendid to others planning a relaxed break to Dubrovnik.
Basic, nice beach
bdk14539on 21/07/2017 16:58It's slightly run down, left over from a previous era but ran by very nice people. It's got a little piece of beach and the restaurant has a beautiful view of the sea. The rooms are small and very basic and the bathrooms are even more so. But they are clean and tidy. The internet works fine and the breakfast is ok. Given that it was a relatively basic place, I thought it's on the expensive side but it was high season. Old town is a good 12-15 minutes by cab.
