Hotel near city Lucerne

Hotel Thorenburg is in Littau and only one stop by train to Old Town city, 5 minutes walking from the hotel to Littau station, and less than 10 minutes by train to the city train station which is super convenient, plus the hotel gave us pass to ride train and/or bus so we didn't have to find parking downtown. Hotel staffs are super nice and very accommodated. WiFi is excellent with high speed just like checking in and checking out, room is very clean and bright with lights. We really like it here.

Off-Centre but Excellent on a Road Trip

We were driving from Luxembourg to Lucerne on our way to Pisa so we were not too bothered that the hotel is outside the city centre - in fact it is located in a beautiful agricultural area surrounded by green fields and hills. We even had horses look into our window in the morning. The hotel is excellent, staff spoke adequate English and the restaurant was great. The price is notably lower than hotels in the centre of town and it comes with free parking right next to the hotel. I think we made an excellent choice. The next morning we drove into town, parked centrally in an underground car park, toured the town and cruised the lake and drove on to our next destination.

Good value for money and easy to gez to Luzern ba train

The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly, the bed is good and bathroom facilities are up to the mark. The only disadvantage was that the reception was not manned on Sunday, and the restaurant is closed on Sundays, so there was no chance to get even a glass of tea or wine in the evening.
Our room faced the road so it was quite loud when the window was open.

Spacious and clean rooms, good staff, but a little outta town.

Pre-booking, check-in & check-out, i.e., basically our experience with the staff:
We booked through booking.com and despite a couple of changes to the dates our interactions with the hotel staff via eMail were dependable. We always got a response within a day and all our enquiries about connectivity, closest train station, etc. we addressed with ample clarity. The staff were helpful enough to provide us local information like timings, weather updates, etc.

Location & transport connections to key attractions and travel hubs:
The hotel is located about 20 minutes drive from the Luzern Main train station. The hotel staff informed us that there is city train that runs frequently from near the hotel to and from the Luzern main station. However, we had a car at our disposal so we didn’t use the public transport.
Attractions - Nothing within walking distance from the hotel. The Luzern old town is about 25 to 30 minutes by car. Finding parking in Luzern is a pain, but we had elders and a baby with us so using the public transport was not a real option for us.

Food at and around the hotel:
The hotel offers a good breakfast spread and they also have a good restaurant for lunch and dinner. My only disappointment was that all the meat on the breakfast buffet was pork and I don’t eat pork. Catering to international tourists, I think they should think about adding at least one more meat to the bfst spread.

Our room:
We had booked two double rooms. Both rooms were similar and extremely spacious with a large desk. The windows had power operated shutters which was convenient and when shut, they made the room pitch dark which was great since we are not early birds. There was however some road noise i.e., cars speeding by that we could hear until we fell asleep, but those weren't loud enough to keep us or our 2 year old awake into the night. There were ample number of power points for charging devices, which kind of stood out as that is usually a problem with most hotel rooms. Everything was very clean and felt like it was well maintained. I've shared some photos.

Very average hotel and costly

The hotel is very average as compared to its price. The breakfast has very limited spread and if you reach after 9 then hardly anything will be there to choose from. So you need to ask staff to refill again . This kind of situation could have been avoided by the hotel. Also we were asked to sit on the specific tables only as other tables are reaerved for dinner . What a weird stuff .. 9 in morning they are making arrangements for dinner .. Stupid stuff which i hated the most.. Last thing, the hotel is right on the highway so there is quite a lot of noise in the rooms from the traffic..
