Stunning views from an excellent hotel
Kurt Jon 21/07/2017 16:22This was our first visit to Engelberg and the moment we entered the hotel we were greeted by very friendly and efficient staff which set the scene for our entire stay.
Our room had the most fantastic views towards the snow covered peaks of the Titlis and surrounding mountains. It was sometimes difficult to concentrate on the superb food due to the breathtaking views of the mountains and the valley below from the hotel terrace, its dining and breakfast rooms! The hotel has a wonderful indoor heated swimming pool and spa area - perfect after a day in the mountains! This hotel is a truly excellent choice of hotel for a visit to the relaxing and charming village of Engelberg and surrounding area.
What a view!!!
vubordeon 08/07/2017 20:02Up on the hill, tucked away in the Swiss Alps, a place from your dreams. The hotel is clean and homely. We stayed on the floor below ground floor. The room was huge, the bed comfy, the bathroom nice. The view from the window was out of this world. Snow capped mountains, lush green lawns.
The breakfast was basic. Could be more elaborate.
One thing I missed terribly was a hot cup of tea or coffee in the room. Please add a electric kettle.
The front desk staff are very helpful & always smiling. Good place to visit with a big group.
Beyond 'Great' Expectations
Emmormouson 18/04/2017 12:51After reading all the reviews I thought we would be staying in a lovely clean hotel with good food and lovely staff. But no, it was much better than that!
From the minute my son and I arrived and receiving a fantastic, genuine, good humoured and special welcome, to the second we left with a courtesy bus ride to the Train Station, we felt we were in paradise.
Monique showed us to our room (41). We went up in the lift with most of our luggage and Monique ran up the stairs with our last case (and beat us!). The room certainly ticked all the boxes and we were especially impressed with the cleanliness, the tech, the space, the comfort of the beds, the bathroom, the sitting area, the balcony and last and certainly not least, the view. What a view it was too. A view never to forget, of Mount Titlis and the surrounding mountains and a birds eye view of Engleberg too.
We had Dinner on all of the four nights we stayed (half board). 5 courses on 3 nights and on the Sunday, we had 7. They have a Gala Dinner Menu on a Sunday Night offering 7 courses if you stay Half Board. The food is out of this world. Not only are the chefs true craftsmen in their field, they are artists too. Every plate we had (and there were 22 each, over our stay) was a true masterpiece in taste and sight. When I asked the question about awards, I was surprised to learn that the hotel does not have any Michellin Stars. However, the hotel does not believe in paying for the 'priilege' of said award(s) and instead, trust their customers to spread the word (of which I am doing now). Trust me, have dinner there - go half board if you can. Not only do you have delicious food you are blessed with one of the best views of the mountains surrounding Englegerg.
Breakfasts offered a superb and huge selection of hot and cold foods and were typically European/Continental. Bacon, sausages and eggs were always fresh.
We did not eat lunch as we were out on the pistes.
The service at Dinner was second to none. I am singling out Yolanda and Margrit as they served us for most of our stay. They proved to be two of the nicest, friendliest, and loveliest people I have met for a long, long time. However, every person we spoke to or served us at the hotel, were absolutely fantastic. A credit to Hotel Waldegg. The unsung heroes (the house keeping team who cleaned our room), Erica Jana and Raquel, did a fantastic job. After a long days skiing it was a pleasure to get 'home' and rest and freshen up in lovely clean surroundings.
We used the Spa too. It was like having our own private Spa as hardly anybody used it whilst we did. It is spotless and has everything you need along with complimentary fruit, tea, water etc. Obviously you can pay for treatments but my son and I opted to splash around like seals and sea lions! We also made use of the lovely sauna, steam room and Tropical Fun showers. That was enough for us.
I can wax lyrical all day about the Hotel Waldegg but I am sure you want to read some of the other excellent reviews - just to make sure you are going to be staying in a place to remember.
Tips:
In ski season, opt to take the courtesy ski bus (number 4) directly to the hotel. It runs half hourly. The hotel might even pick you up if you arrange that in advance. It is not far but ALL up hill and not recommended to try to walk with luggage or in the wet or snow. You can hail a taxi if you wish but I do not know how much they are.
Eat at the Hotel Waldegg. Of course there are other restaurants (and probably good ones too) but you will get art on a plate there for sure. We all know that Switzerland is not cheap but you will not be disappointed eating there and if you go for the Half Board package, you will save some money too.
Make time to use the spa - it is heavenly.
Finally - enjoy.
Family ski week
timmyhoson 06/03/2017 20:02We visited Engelberg with my parents wife and son! The hotel was as follows;
Room size and interior design first class, very clean with good shampoo soap etc..
Hotel Amenities: pool was fantastic, gym was good and all very clean.
Check in and check out: smooth, friendly and easy.
Reception helpful note: we had an issue with our pram and they had it fixed locally & in good time.
We chose half board and although we had minor service issues the first nights it was fantastic, the food was fresh, well cooked! Menu lacked a visible vegetarian option and the kids menu need greater variety as our little terror! Does not eat fried food! Note: they cooked food for him almost every night that was not on the menu! Sometimes I had food jealousy!
although I don't recognize management and owners in this blog on this occasion it must be recognized that his passion for the hotel, his polite nature and dedication for a 5 star hotel really made our stay! Great hotel and great skiing
Feels like home
Spanish_Matadoron 04/01/2017 17:53Third year in a row now, always same room, feels truly like home with a lot of attention to detail. Can't wait to be back more on a spontaneous getaway over a weekend sometimes in the next couple of weeks, but also considering staying there sometimes in summer for a nice hiking vacation.
