I needed a basic Hotel for a night.
Clive Hon 27/07/2017 23:17The Hotel Alexandra is a basic 2 Star in the French Style. I had a double room with just basic furniture but with a comfortable bed a separate toilet/shower room, TV kettle and cups etc, on the second floor.( Note no lift if you cannot manage the stairs). I had a pleasant breakfast- there were Coffee/ tea juices, cereal, croissant/baguette, cheese etc served by a pleasant lady, I personal had a croissant and jam, cheese and juice and 3 cups coffee as I had quite to drink in the evening! The young man who dealt with the reception was very efficient (spoke English) and my French is rather poor this days! and I was in my room a few minutes. I would stay again bearing my comments on the basically.
Basic, functional hotel
Declan Don 27/06/2017 16:53The hotel is very basic. The first thing that greets you in the tiny bedroom is the stale musty smell. We would not stay here again. The breakfast was ok breads pastries etc. The location is the best thing about the hotel.
Good location
Looch233on 09/05/2017 15:53We were looking for a cheapish night in a hotel where we could go out and explore the town. Having read the other reviews we were unsure of what to expect.
The hotel is small and typically French with the breakfast tables in the small reception area. The reception guy spoke perfect English and was very welcoming. There is no onsite parking but we managed to find a parking space in the street outside which was free. The room was pretty basic and not that wonderful, however, it was clean, and comfortable. The downside was the price £71.00 - breakfast extra!! but you pay for the city centre location which gives you more choice of being able to venture out to explore the local bars and restaurants, whereas when you stay out of the city/towns the hotels tend to be situated on industrial parks, which have very limited eateries and tend to be chains. It all depends on your preference.
Con-artists, avoid at all costs
Jonathan Won 09/09/2016 20:45The hotel experience itself was mixed. An old - fashioned room, uncomfortable bed and poor service were somewhat offset by a central location and relatively cheap price.
Any complaints here were massively overshadowed by the experience encountered when checking-out. The room had been prebooked on TripAdvisor and paid in full (hardly a unique occurrence), despite this the gentleman on the desk insisted we pay the full amount again, and that we had paid only a small reservation fee. It took the staff 15 minutes of us waiting and searching for them to discover the full amount had in fact been paid. This included is overhearing one staff member whispering to the other 'who is he calling?'.
It was quite clear the intention, and we can only recommend trying another hotel in boulogne in the hope you encounter less hostility and fewer under-hand tactics.
The hotel was ok for getting to Le Shuttle the next day
MaudBroodhenon 24/06/2016 19:19It advertised on Booking.com as having free parking but we ended up paying for an overnight stay in an underground car park. Could have parked in the road but would have had to get up and move car very early. Room was ok but a bit small for 3 of us.
