Lovely meal in the centre of town

We visited the hotel for an evening meal about a month ago and we're so pleased we made a second visit this week.
Whilst we can't comment on the accommodation the hotel is a small boutique style with a reception area being central to a casual dining area to the front of the building and a formal dining area to the rear. In addition there is a covered outside dining area in a courtyard adjacent to the formal dining room.
Whilst we didn't take advantage of the outdoor area, it looked very pleasant and nicely lit as the light was fading in the evening. We ate on both occasions in the less formal dining area which was fine for us. On both occasions the formal dining area had been fully booked which we took as a good sign as to the quality and reputation of the restaurant.
All we can say is that we had two excellent dining experiences choosing from the Menu Etape which gave three very well presented courses for 19 euros, or any two courses for 16 euros, which we thought was excellent value.
We also found the staff to be very helpful and friendly and at least two of the staff had a good grasp of the English language which helped us with a couple of clarifications on the menu, even though most of it was also shown in English.
Overall, we would happily recommend and will certainly be visiting again. Please note that it was busy on both occasions and you should consider booking, particularly if you would like the formal dining area.

Disaster

Visited for a meal, which was of reasonable standard. But was accidentally spilled down my back, staff showed no regard for me at all, no one asked was I alright. An apology of a sort was about five minutes later. No reduction in bill, just a liqueur...wether we wanted it or not! My top was totally ruined as the grease stains have not been washed out!
A pleasant night out with my brother spoiled by poor staff. I appreciate accidents happen but their response was very poor.

Don't pay until you have seen your room. If it's not what you expected you won't get a refund!

We arrived late without a booking and were charged for a family room. Very apparently pet friendly. Hobson's choice in our case, so pre book if you can. Had we not paid at reception we might have moved on, but it was late.

However, when we said we didn't like the room, have you another? the instant reply was that we wouldn't get a refund, which we hadn't intimated we were looking for. That didn't help...

Friendly hotel with excellent cuisine

Do not be put off by the logos 2 star rating. My room on the top floor was spacious, modern, air con and light. I was just passing through so did not expect much but the meal was of a good standard served with some excellent local brew. The car park was full but the public car park opposite was more than adequate. Jonzac is not Cognac but for an evening going through this region of France more than acceptable.

Great location in the town, with secure private parking.

Broke up a trip between UK and Spain. Approx 7 hours to Dieppe, with stops.
Will return to this delightfully located hotel. Staff very friendly and warm, excellent restaurant for dinner. Breakfast was good, with fresh bakery items on constant resupply, although could have benefitted from some fresh fruit.
Room was good value, although the bathroom was a little small. Good temperature and pressure in the shower. We will certainly use the property in the future. Thank you Hotel de L'Ecu.
