What People are saying

A country b&b as it should be

Carpe Diem is not a hotel, so don't expect a glossy reception area with personnel on standby. We chose this b&b because of its remote location (in the heart of the Ardennes), which is in fact a very pleasant and scenic 40 min drive from Liege. We arrived on a Wed night, the owner saw us coming through the restaurant window and he quickly opened the b&b door for us. We stayed on the first floor overlooking the village square. The room is clean and modern, with simple furnishings and a comfortable large bed. The bathroom had a separate toilet, a large bath and all the necessary amenities. We went down tot the restaurant for dinner and we had a great 3 course meal. The breakfast next morning is very French: fresh bread and croissants, juice, ham and cheese, coffee and tea. Again, not a hotel so there's no buffet with many choices. I'm sure that if you have specific dietary wishes they will take that into account. We thought this b&b was great value for money (€85 for 1 night).

Be aware that you're in the French part of Belgium, so it's handy if you at least understand French.

A tad strange

I booked a surprise trip to Belgium for my partner's birthday which included going to the Belgian Grand Prix. Having found it very difficult to find accommodation reasonably close to the Spa Grand Prix circuit, I came across this one through a late booking internet site, which was about a 50 minute (very pleasant) drive from the circuit.
On arriving, we were not too sure. From the outside I thought we had arrived at the local careers office, with it's array of frosted windows, with only the hotel name giving it away. We had to ring on the door bell as both the restaurant and hotel doors were locked. 'Reception' was actually in the restaurant itself and the whole place just seemed eerily quiet. The owner, Stephane, who seems to do everything, gave me the room keys after seeming to deliberate which room we should have, and explained that one key was for entry to the hotel, which is locked at all times.
The room itself was very modern, with wood floors, a very large modern bathroom and separate wc. and it was clean - though when checking we had everything before departure, I looked under the bed which was quite dusty. The bathroom overlooked the road, hence the frosted windows, and the room overlooked ... a flat roof ... and these windows too were unsurprisingly frosted. Breakfast was of the continental variety only.
I guess I was disappointed, given the cost of £160 per night, it was more expensive than the wonderful hotel we had just come from in Bruges. It is obviously a very new hotel and I doubt it has been running long, but it has a lot to learn ...
