Generic Ibis - good value
jandlUkon 20/08/2017 15:58Saturday night stay. Premises are on a commercial site on the outskirts of Town, adjacent to a playing field. Hotel seems newish and the reception/bar area is fine - bit cafe like, but appropriate for this chain. Ample free parking - you must register your car to avoid a charge. Check in was a bit unwelcoming, but our double room on the 2nd floor was fine. Generic capsule shower room. Good shower with large cubicle. Clean, quiet and comfortable for an overnight stay. Basic, but with Ibis you know what to expect. We didn't eat here, but took a drink in the bar, which was quite busy. Staff were pleasant. Free wifi with good signal. Would use again.
A Great Place to Stay!
fetchseekon 19/08/2017 20:29We had a great experience staying at this hotel. very friendly and helpful staff at check-in. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was the most comfortable we have experienced in a hotel for a long time.
One night stop-over
hatmanBansteadon 17/08/2017 14:57I was going to have a 'liquid' evening with an old colleague and needed somewhere to rest my head for the night. Ibis was a decent choice. Just off a roundabout on the A417 on the outskirts of Gloucester it is a reasonably new hotel. I had booked and paid in advance so the check-in was smooth and easy. I had room 104 with twin beds and coffee making facilities. Except for the small waste bin in the toilet (probably for more personal items) there was not another one in the room. The bathroom is small but well designed and the shower is impressive. It is in a segment and takes up one corner. The curved doors allow for a bigger space. Room for two??!!
My only problem was with the fire alarm push. I don't know if the other rooms are of similar design and layout, but in my room there was no marker to say that it was the fire alarm activator and it was sited a few inches below a switch for a bedside lamp. It was very easy to grope for the light switch in the dark and accidentally hit the fire alarm instead. I speak from experience!
I didn't stay for breakfast so I cannot comment on the food.
Exceeded our expectations
Graham Gon 15/08/2017 09:35What a great wee place. Staff were friendly, place was very clean, food great. Room was great. Bed comfy. Bathroom pod a wee bit odd but shower great.
A previous review mentioned lack of bin in the room. We found the carrying of rubbish into the bin in the bathroom not too daunting!😋
Ignore the negative reviews. It is unjustified, especially given the price.
Business hotel w/ good-sized rooms and pleasant stuff. Too much DUST though
AgileWolfon 14/08/2017 13:22LOCATION
Very conveniently located near Gloucester's business parks and industrial sites. Free car park for patrons/hotel guests, which has remaining slots most of the days. Next to the Coroner's Court, however there is no noise for business people. Located in front of a football pitch, which may become noisy when people play football. One could have a meal in the hotel's restaurant, as the nearest restaurant is quite at distance. Bear that in mind when booking, if you don't have your own means of transportation. Some companies, e.g. EDF, offer a free shuttle bus/taxi service from/to hotel from their main building at Barnwood (4'min drive).
CAR PARK
Mind that there is an ANPR system, which recognises your vehicle's licence plate. You MUST register your vehicle at the Reception by using the tablet. Once you type your registration plate, the tablet then shows the type of the car. Forgetting to register would result to a fine.
ATMOSPHERE
Typical budget, business hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. I didn't have great expectations due to the reputation of the brand, however I was pleasantly surprised. Smiling receptionists, welcoming cleaners. Great! Coming from the entrance, you hear a nice 'hello'. In the evenings, there is a nice buzz from the restaurant at the ground floor.
ROOM
Standard Ibis room suitable for business: plenty of room to work/put your laptop/paperwork. Wooden chair is not the most comfortable in the world, however one can bear it for an extra couple of hours of work before going to bed. Nice comfy bed, great pillows, no extra blankets/duvets in the room, so if you tend to get cold during the night, ask reception for more. The bathroom is a prefabricated cubicle, but I personally liked its design and use of space. Very clever indeed.
Only drawback: strong odour of blocked sewage, which was rather off-putting. Thankfully, the odour didn't spread into the main room, so by closing the door, it was okay.
CLEANLINESS
Overall, the room looked quite clean, with the floor being floored with wooden slates (easier to clean, more hygienic as the floor can be mopped). However, I was horrified when, after a good night sleep, I woke up the following morning discovering a thick layer of DUST on the screen of my mobile phone. I think the climate system needs thoroughly cleaning as it spreads dust throughout the night...
WIFI
It is offered free-of-charge throughout the hotel, at good speeds
OVERALL
Nice budget business hotel for the short-run.
