Throwback to 19th century california with elegance and feel of the past

A great two night stay at the Imperial. This is a very small town, but great food at the hotel and a couple other places within a block or two. Retains its charm from the late 1800s; with downstairs bar, upstairs rooms, and some with balcony overlooking the front street (our room). Clean, comfortable, with seating, internet (there might have been a tv), and coffee in the morning. Quiet even with revellers downstairs, and the charm that comes only from a one-of-a-kind place. If you are coming to this part of california from overseas, do yourself a favor and stay here out of the chain hotels. But the beds are a little funky, and firmness and evenness are not their hallmark. But after the areas great zinzs and food, we slept quite well.

Amazing find

This gold country hotel is great. It is on the historic registry, amazing restaurant, even its own ghost.
Definitely will be back. Amador city is very very small but quant. The town was decorated with corn stalks and
pumpkins giving it a festive fall welcome.

Mixed experience; basically OK

In anticipation of our road trip through the Gold Rush country, we decided in advance to spend a night in the Sutter Creek/Amador City area (towns are five minutes from each other) and chose the Imperial Hotel for an authentic old Gold Rush building. We reserved two connecting rooms and that part was fine. Be forewarned that one has to climb a long and steep set of stairs so if mobility is an issue, this is not the place for you. A young man was summoned to help us with our suitcases. As for the rooms themselves, "quaint" would be an accurate adjective. They have added a/c which in the summer is necessary but I had some difficulty getting ours to work properly; had to call one of the owners after hours -- to her credit, she walked me through the necessary steps to make sure it was working well for us.

It has been a long time since I have stayed in a hotel room without a phone or TV (!) but we didn't miss it -- just be sure to have a cell phone with you.

The young woman who checked us in (and waited on us at dinner) was most pleasant. I will write a separate review of the restaurant.

In the morning, I discovered that our toilet was clogged -- there was exactly one staff member on duty -- working the kitchen and dining room but she ultimately located a plunger which I used to solve the problem. In short, this is not a full service establishment.

Outstanding Adventure at Amador City's Imperial Hotel!

When we booked our reservation in Room 1 (thanks to reviews we read here) we knew we were getting an old hotel with no television, but were unprepared for how wonderfully western and comfortable it turned out to be. Everything was scrupulously clean and nicely decorated. We greatly appreciated the attention to detail, the comfortable bed and pillows,, the great towels and their environmentally conscientious stand including using full-sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion. Our room was made up each day, everything cleaned. The breakfasts were perfectly delicious with a choice of a hot item (omelets the first day and pecan French toast the next) or homemade granola and fresh fruit with milk or yogurt. We only had one dinner there (closed Mondays), but it was also wonderful. The staff is tiny but adequate and their service was great. Danae's fabulous bakery (only open Thursdays-Sundays like most of the businesses in town) is right up the street - about half a block. Everything we tried there was beyond delicious! We will definitely plan to go back to the Imperial and little Amador City again (when it's not 102 degrees)!

Experience subpar as before

We have spent several trips here, and have always had a good experience in the room and with dinner and breakfast. However, today's breakfast included a toaster waffle. They do not change the bedding, which is fine, but they did not even come in to make the bed. We will be back, but we hope in the future that the breakfast is as it used to be, and that they at least come in to make the bed!
