Friendly Staff, Clean Accommodation

Can see hotel has been recently updated. Room was clean & smelled fresh. (Tub could have maybe used a bit of extra elbow grease for a deeper cleaning.). Breakfast was fine with plenty of options. ALL staff were friendly. Our one complaint is while the a/c did work, the room felt clammy & material felt damp. Travel: About 10-12 min from airport; 15 min to Graceland & about 25 min to downtown. ~$12 Uber to Graceland & $16-18 to downtown. We'd stay here again.

Fairly new Holiday Inn Express this one - although already showing signs of wear and tear. The room itself was fine, bed especially comfy but the curtains were awful and there was an inch gap under the front door making jet lagged travellers such as I struggle if you prefer sleeping in darkness - ended up blocking as best I could with a towel throughout the stay.

The breakfast was the standard fare and sufficed although in the end we did eat out for over half the stay as there's only so much you can take.

Overall good - 4 stars due to the poor sleeping conditions reference light leakage.

Major cleaning and upgrades needed

My son and I recently spent two nights here for a weekend getaway. I chose this location because it looked centrally located between downtown and Ikea with easy interstate access. As a IHG rewards member, I most often choose HIE hotels when traveling, and rarely am I disappointed.

I first thought the staff was very friendly (they were!), but it seemed odd to me that the housekeeper was confused that we were checking in because she thought our room had guests staying over from the previous night. I mentioned that I sure hoped the sheets were clean, and she assured me she had just cleaned the room. We must have different definitions of clean. Upon entering the bathroom, the toilet had stuff stuck on the seat; there was hair in the sink, on the floor, on the toilet, etc.; the vanity had water (?) spots; and the floor had enough residue that our shoes made that sticking sound as we walked. If it had not been a holiday weekend, I would have left. The carpet was visibly dirty as well, with debris near the window and under the nightstand. I did examine the beds, and they seemed clean. Common areas were also dirty.

The next day, I had a lukewarm shower at best in the tub which had cracked and peeling spots and pink mold in one corner. I guess the hotel hot water heaters could not keep up with the guest demand that day because the water was hot on day 2. I had to ask for our room to be cleaned on day 2 when nothing had been done by 3pm. At 8pm, we found our beds sloppily made, no handtowels, no toiletries replenished, no extra roll of toilet paper, and only 2 towels and washcloths. There were also dirty shoeprints in the bathroom.

Besides the cleaning issues, the hotel needs upgrading. Wallpaper is peeling; carpet is loose and unravelling; bathtubs are cracked; and side doors won't unlock to name a few issues.

All of the staff I encountered were very nice, but nice does not make up for jobs not done (housekeeping, maintenance, etc.). On top of all of those issues, the hotel's location is not the best. It is not the hood, but there were plenty of people milling around on street corners at all hours. This was a big disappointment, as I have trusted the IHG name for years, specifically Holiday Inn Express. On our next visit, we will probably try a different hotel chain, and we will for sure stay in a different area of Memphis.

Front Desk Friendly, Bathrooms need help

The front desk lady, Sharonda was EXTREMELY friendly and helpful even on a busy Friday night. The lobby and pool were good. There are no laundry facilities on site although stated as so. The room was clean, but the bathroom needs some attention. the bathtub was in rough shape with some mold and patch job on the drain. Also the shower did not work properly, only put out half the water and the other half came out of the faucet at the same time. Probably wouldn't stay at this location again even though service was great.

Older. Nice staff.

Everything is pottery old, stained, worn. This is my second stay and both were the same. Just very dated. Gym has no weights and 3 different cardio machines. Staff is extra helpful and polite to make up for it.
