Relaxing stay

We stayed here for two nights as part of a tour. It was a lovely, relaxing end to what had been a busy trip so far. The hotel is located right on the beach and you can get stunning views of the sun setting on a clear evening. The pool looked lovely although we didn't use it. We loved sitting the chairs just inside, looking out to the beach and reading our books...with a beer! It is obviously a hotel popular with families as the pool was pretty much full of kids most of the time. The beach is gorgeous but be warned, there are very strong currents. The ladies selling their wares on the beach were quick to tell people which sections to avoid which was lovely of them. The food was a bit disappointing but it was okay over all.

Good for a couple of nights

The rooms are big and the beds are comfortable. The beach is minutes away. There is a wide range of foods available but the quality varies. The staff are extremely helpful. The pool is nice. Overall it's a comfortable place to stay.

GOOD HOTEL

Rooms were pretty good. Had wrong labels in the buffet creating problems with non sea food eaters, Has a good private beach. Staff need more training with customer service as with most of SL hotels.Manager was good enough to admit their mistakes.

It grew on us...

We stayed for 3-nights and I would recommend. There were some things that could have been better, but I will say the management was good and willing to listen so if you are not happy about something let them know.

Con's: - pool attendants could use some work...we had to ask for towels (they didn't come up and ask us if we needed any help) and they put it over the chair cover which was weird. So we had to take the cover off ourselves and re-do.
- The front office while pleasant, but we had a couple of miscommunications. So one was that we had ants in our room and it took several tries to communicate. Second, we wanted to inform the kitchen we weren't coming down for dinner and somehow that was missed. And finally, when we asked for beach activities they weren't that knowledgable or helpful in guiding us on what to do. They just introduced us to a tuk tuk driver standing outside the gate. More information and advice on fair prices for the drivers would have been good.
- Finally, there are locals that stand at the fence and look in. It is a public beach outside so there is nothing you can do - but they are hawkers looking to sell you stuff. But it is a bit strange to have them just staring.

Pros:
- Restaurant staff, chef and restaurant manager were great. Especially the restaurant manager he ended up helping us a lot on pricing and suggestions. Chef was very friendly and always came to talk to us.
- The food had good variety and was tasty - the curry and rice set I thought was the best we'd had in Sri Lanka. Of course they were accommodating to our son that lives on pizza.
- Rooms were comfortable and I thought for the value it was consistent.
- Day 1 we got off to a bit of a rough start trying to figure out the staff and service - but in the end we were really happy and they were warm and friendly.

Since the beach was rough as we traveled off-season we figured out our routine. We would to to Wellegama beach to surf (we found good guys who did surf lessons for us) and then transitioned on the Tuk to Mrissa beach which was lovely. The Tuk driver took us to a local store to buy beach towels cheap before we went. They we just hung out at the beaches all day. Good little shacks on the road for lunch if needed.

So there is a bit of "figuring it out on your own" but Insight was a good base and very welcoming to come back to in the evening.

Amazing place, very peaceful

This resort is everything you can ask for from a beach vacation. Amazingly clean beach, very nice pool. The spa here looks nice and cozy, though we didnt use it. The rooms are amazing with pretty nice views, some of them come with a balcony and some dont. The resort is amazing.

But the food here is pretty bad, the only dish which was good was their fish and chicken rice meal which comes with 5 different veggies mix. Other than the food we enjoyed everything about the resort.
