A welcome break on a long journey
Frances Aon 12/05/2016 11:06Found online so pleasantly surprised when we arrived very tired. We had a simple supper at the Bistro which was just what we needed and slept wonderfully well in the dark, quiet and very comfortable bed. Would definately go back if travelling this way again.
“Not entirely professional”
SPR-ambleon 29/10/2015 11:00Staff always friendly but I think the one young man, who dealt with us a lot, was very new and had some problems. All problems were fairly easily and quickly resolved. The final bill however did not include one of the drinks we had from the bar and I had to point this out.
Good hotel generally, very easy to find, mattress excellent, firm, breakfast French buffet adequate but not especially extensive. Though there were commercial site nearby these could not be heard and did not in any way intrude. Good looking pool but we did not try it.
Of the three Inter-Hotels we used on this trip, this was the best.
One night stay
jmuk71on 30/07/2015 21:58Stayed here for one night as we headed down south. On the edge of an industrial park, we thought it was shut down when we arrived.
But it was clean and fine, just a bit dull and basic.
Doue was also rather dull so we headed elsewhere.
It's fine if your after a clean and basic hotel, if you want more I'd look elsewhere. Didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the food.
Excellent hotel
Nick Aon 10/01/2013 14:56Hotel de la Saulaie is a brilliantly situated hotel in Doue la Fontaine, easy to find, near all the local attractions in the Saumur/ Loire region, and with superbly accommodating owners. The hotel is lovely, and the rooms are everything you'd want during a trip to France, equipped with all necessary amenities, including a TV, phone, free wi-fi, and are extremely clean and comfortable. There is lovely garden, and a heated swimming pool for anyone intent on relaxing after a day out sight seeing on a hot French summers day.
Doue la Fontaine has many attractions itself, including a suit of lovely restaurants, serving fouaces, part of the local cosine ('Cathédrales de la Saulaie' I believe to be the restaurant I visited, however the owners are very accommodating and could recommend brilliant restaurants in the area). The zoo is wonderful for children, or people of all ages interested in animals and conservation, with a diverse array of animals including Giraffe, rhino’s, bears, lions, and Gibbons, to name a few. There are also some superb regional festivals during the summer. The vibrant and famous 'La grande tablee' wine festival in Saumur is a must, which is a fantastic gathering for tasting local wines. Highly recommended***. For the younger generation, the 'track n art' music festival, which I visited, features both local, and international musicians, and is situated on the outskirts of Doue la Fontaine, taking part on just one weekend of the summer. A must visit for younger travelers.
Saumur is just a 7 minute drive east of the hotel, and the local vine yards surrounding Saumur are a must visit, as I'm sure many visitors are aware of. The town of Saumur is beautiful, and features a fantastic castle within Saumur itself.
My stay at Hotel de la Saulaie was everything I could have asked for, with lovely owners, and highly recommend to anyone visiting the area that wish to be well situated for day trips to regional attractions in the Loire region, as well for travellers passing by. I visited in July 2012 and I will be sure to stop here again when passing through the region next time, if not only for the perfect situation, but also the very kind and accommodating owners. Highly recommended***.
Location, location, location

Location: Although on a roundabout it was quiet in our bedroom which looked out over the well screened with trees back garden and slightly heated pool, attractive, care had been taken..
Location: The neighbouring properties in the cul-de-sac are Decheterie, Restaurant Chez Paul, lorry park, Tyres Depot, Garage selling cars also car wash and bodyshop, finally another lorry park. It is not a problem but I prefer to know in advance into what I am letting myself.
