Convenient & with a birdie bonus!

A great location for the town centre which is worth a visit. We had a budget room so no frills but was clean and did have a mini bar. Found the tiny cupboard-like room with the loo in very odd and wondered why on earth they hadn't put it in the bathroom as there was plenty of space. As a convenient place to stay it works well as a base rather than somewhere to relax. What made it outstanding for us was a 2 hour display of roosting starlings in the trees along both sides of the avenue in front of the hotel every evening. We were transfixed as possibly tens of thousands flew in to spend the night. Absolutely wonderful. if you like birds get a room at the front of the hotel, floor 3!

We booked the day before after changing our hols so we could get our car fixed. We arrived with a car full of wet camping kit & the hotel kindly arranged for us to store all our kit in their garage so we could take our empty car to the garage.
Our family room was clean & comfortable, with a lovely bathroom, though it was quite small, we were pleased the children's beds were slightly round the corner!

a very clean hotel, staff were English speaking which made it easy for me, they were also very helpful, a nice quiet town with lots of places to eat and we wish we'd had time to explore more. if you are there by car you can secure it in the garage next to the hotel

Sunday 8th June 2014 - Having got off the ferry at 7.00 and driven in the heat for hours we were keen to get settled into the hotel. The booking confirmation (and the card in the room) say that we could check in at 15.00 but we arrived to find a printed notice on the door saying the hotel was closed until 17.30 we were hot, tired and did not want to walk around for 2½ hours so we rang the intercom and were given a front door key code, told our key was on the public key board with our name on and we had to wait the 2½ hours for our secure parking. With seemingly no staff on duty in the hotel at all we let ourselves into our room. We were offered no explanation or apology for the lack of staff and as the various closing notices we encountered were printed this was clearly not a one off. The room was largely as booked a club room with a bathroom and WC ensuite. It was clean, tidy, airy and had air-conditioning but it was rather noisy but then these units often are. The secondary glazing has about 15 holes drilled through the frames in places so is not as effective as expected. The bathroom had lots of towels and the water was hot but there are no grab rails and the small bath / shower is quite deep to step in and out of. Our bedroom only had one very uncomfortable big brown chair and a see through plastic chair even though there are beds for 3 people. Having hung around for the receptionist to come on duty we put the car in the parking we had booked to pay an extra €7 for although later not charged. The information in the room did not match the breakfast times etched in the breakfast room door which finish 30 minutes earlier than the room card states. The card also advises of local restaurants so we asked a friendly receptionist for information on one and then walked the 500 meters (her estimate) there and back as we had not been told that this and most of the others they mention do not open on Sunday evening. So we walked well over a kilometre to find some food. On our return another printed sign told us the hotel was closed at 21.30 so we had to use the code again and let ourselves in. The info card in the room said they would help us with our luggage, problems with unsecure internet access, a safe for our valuables, book a taxi, reserve restaurants, give free complimentary toiletries and much more only for all these and more you had to ask the receptionist and there was none for all but 4 hours between our arrival at just before 15.00 until the following morning. In fact the French version of the card offers more services than the English one printed on the back. In the French version it opens with Nous sommes à votre dispositon de 07.00 à 22.30 pour vous assurer un accueil chaleureux et agreement votre séjour – which I think roughly translates as “We are your contact from 07.00 to 22.30 for a warm welcome and your stay agreement” the English side of the card states “One of our staff is at your disposal to extend a friendly welcome and to be helpful in every possible way” but it does not give a time or say you call a faceless person from the intercom in the street who gives instructions how to do it yourself. We were kept awake by noisy other residents until 01.00 the soundproofing seemingly being inadequate and there being no one at the desk to ask for a move but were told when we checked out that we could have called reception and the call would have been patched through but they had no answer when asked how should we have known that it is not what your information says? We travel a lot and on this trip we have been travelling in Europe for the last 3½ weeks staying in a variety of places including 3 nights on ferries and this is the only one where we felt like latch key kids and could not sleep due to disturbances. Although there are positives and the people seem very pleasant I cannot recommend this hotel as we would not stay there again and for €118 for one nights b&b we would expect more than this.

Comfy bed, very clean, lovely decor. Decent breakfast. Only drawbacks room bit small for child's bed and wifi intermittent on 2nd floor. Manager very nice and friendly. There was no one on reception when we arrived so we were sent entry code and keys were waiting which worked well.
