Disappointing in most respects
SouthWalesUKHeatheron 23/08/2017 10:44O dear! The current cost of a room here is £279 a night. We were booked there by Viking as part of a cruise package. It is fairly central- 5-10 minutes' walk to main square. There are 2 restaurants opposite and the Italian is good. Gym and pool were quite good. Breakfast was superb- incredible choices and huge variety to suit absolutely everyone- and good coffee! Without the breakfast the rating would have been lower. The hotel is huge- massive lobby etc. but pleasant enough. After that sadly it goes downhill. The lifts are fast but the hallways and corridors are dark. The room was dingy; we didn't expect a view but everything was down at heel and very 80's in style. Chipped wooden units and desk and grubby grey and beige carpet- more like a hostel than a hotel of this calibre. The bed was large and clean. There was an over bath shower with oddly positioned controls and no instruction as to how to use them. No drawer space at all and wardrobe space was in the bathroom, open to the steam etc. Toilet cubicle in bathroom. A huge mirror was not well placed and it was easy to turn the wrong way and walk into it. A Tassimo tea and coffee machine plus a kettle were plus points - although again no instructions as to how to use the machine. In - room safe which would take a laptop was provided. A large minibar in the fridge- very expensive of course and locked via reception so if you wanted to use the fridge you had to ask to have it released and empty it (once you had spent ages trying to work out how it opened!). All in all not at all what I would have expected of the brand with the exception of the breakfast.

It was dirty for a start.
Breakfast was overpriced and expensive.
Staff were semi helpful.
Facility's were out dated.
€13 to watch a film in your room.
Middle eastern people in the swimming pool with there clothes on.
€17 to use the hotel sauna & steam room.
Staff were very unorganised.
More of a 3* hotel. There are much nice hotels in Berlin. We actually checked out quickly and moved to a different hotel.
Highly Recommend if your a IHG Ambassador
VangeInternationalon 21/08/2017 00:39This is a very nice, Hotel, huge and inviting foyer and plenty of doormen to ensure your guided to the right spot. It is a practical and well placed Berlin city hotel. The service is superb, from checkin at the IHG Ambassador Express line, my paperwork was ready and suite with extra pillows and fruit and water all ready, If you join the IHG rewards program you are guaranteed the best possible rate online beating all other online companies and InterContinental of course, have the Ambassador program which has its benefits also. Such as guaranteed upgrade, a in room gift, bottled water and fruit.
The concierge services are brilliant. Really a special mention needs to be made to Sebastian and Kevin they simply are real Service ambassadors to this grand hotel and love their work. It was a pleasure to meet them and they are to a well traveled person refreshing to meet such great team members. They organise everything from maps, tours, bookings and plenty of advice on exciting things to do. Sebastian also has a real passion for IHG so he can tell you all about the company if your interested, I was.
The location right in the heart of the city offers great views, the rooms are decorated with great taste, and lighting. there's a nice restaurant and Marlene's bar in the lobby. This has plenty of photos of Marlene Dietrich and the team here were all very nice, but I'd be amiss not to send a heartbeat out to the very Happy, and smiling Pascale. Such great service and so very pleasant, made our night. There's a club lounge which I didn't see which is a shame as it's a retreat for me as I don't drink alcohol or eat very much at all so,it's not about the complimentary f&b it's about a quiet zone, nor can I tell you about it or know if it's nice or not. Maybe next time?
Please make sure you book a room/suite pay that little more for executive room so you get an upper floor with views of the activity and bright lights of the vaste city. You will love it. The rooms have great soft plush beds, lovely linens and bathroom amenities which are all top rate. There's separate shower, rain shower, bathtub and bidet. Unusually the curtains aren't Block out, but I'd describe them as grey out, but you are aware when the sun rises. Theres a do not disturb switch to block access to your room and airco is great and ensures a good nights rest and sleep in.
Spend some time in the Marlene bar and maybe you will meet one of the VIP or stars that may stay in this hotel. The walls are covered with photos of these guests. Overall Great staff make this a Great hotel, and I would recommend it if your an IHG Ambassador and in Berlin.
Very nice hotel
MmeRobillardon 18/08/2017 22:01We stayed 5 nights at this hotel which is fantastic very nice room and very clean. It is very quiet.The breakfast is amazing there is everything you want. Very good expresso and cappuccino. The bus is just in front of the hotel to go visit the city. The staff is very nice.
Superb Breakfast
Steven Ton 18/08/2017 13:12By far the finest hotel we stayed at on 2 week Northern Europe trip. Good enough for Viking Cruises and more than good enough for us. The breakfast is excellent - worth whatever it costs. Great for vegetarians and those who appreciate a pot of premium tea (aasam to oolong) to go along with standard breakfast fare and dishes from Mediterranean to Asian.
Great location. 12-15 minutes to nearest train station, which in turn is 3 stops from Berlin Central station. 2 minutes from Tiergarten and 7 minutes to Kaiser Wilhelm market.
Our standard room was spacious and ultra quiet. Public areas have a premium look. Elevators are large and fast. There are large numbers of staff ready to answer questions in English. We hope hotel is affordable once again on next visit to Berlin.
