On a tour
amy don 15/06/2017 14:27Stopped here between st petersburg and Moscow for 1 night and thankfully it was just one because I wasn't overly impressed.
Every room has different furniture so you don't know what you're gonna get but our room had 2 single beds with bed heads and bed ends. That would be ok if we both were short. I couldn't lay straight on the bed because my head hit one end and my feet the other. It was very weird.
We also had dinner at the hotel and didn't even know what meat we were served. Mine looked like and tasted like very dark pork but apparently the same thing was served to the person next to me and they said theirs was chicken (and it was white like chicken breast) very odd.
Breakfast was ok, better choices than I expected.
Close to town so easy and pretty walk
Classic Russian Hospitality
DollyBirdScotlandon 17/05/2017 13:24Intourist was the Soviet company which opened up Russia to the mass tourist market and so the company is still there and whilst the hotel has been redecorated they have retained the Soviet charm with the beautifful mosiac artwork outside as well as some of the wooden carvings and stained glass windows in the games room which luckily have all been preserved, giving the place a special and unique charm. Let's hope it stays that way.
The receptionists could have been all ex Miss USSR 1970s-80s, and added a touch of glamour to the efficient service. Breakfast was great, huge selection! Friendly staff who keep the place clean and running. Has a small lobby bar too.
We had a 5.30 am check out for the train and they said don't worry we will feed you. We got handed two bags of food that could have lasted us till Irkursk! But that is Russian hospitality, must have your breakie!
Great value and would stay again, not far from the centre (10 mins) some nice cafes and bars on the street too and they have self catering apartments which look great.
Soviet era
nataliebh2015on 27/09/2016 22:38The best thing I can say about the hotel was that is next to the interesting " spaceship" building. Old Soviet style hotel. Tiny bathroom with weird shower. Breakfast/dining room was decorated by someone who may have done too many drugs back in the 60's. Okay for one night. Really needs an update.
My favourite hotel in Russia
edwmageeon 25/09/2016 21:24Of all the places we stayed this easily was my favourite.
The building was stunning from the mosaic outside to the dinning room with tapestry / woven carpets I the wall and the wood carving in the dining room area
We arrived at 6 am and they allowed us to check into our junior suite. The suite was huge with a dining table / kitchenette sitting area complete with brown shah pile carpet a nice bedroom and a mirror ceiling bathroom
It was faded glory with a view of a long abandoned extension but somewhere quite unique to stay.
Dinner we thought was going to be poor but actually was really nice they did the best Russian salad we had in all of Russia. As well as the cheese topped chops.
There is also an amazing Soviet era theatre building next store
This was a unique place to stay and you wonder how long it will survive
Old Soviet Style
deepchion 22/09/2016 19:29Dated. Surreal. Time machine return to another era. Tiny bathrooms with weird showers that wet the entire bathroom floor. A bit warn out. Minimalist Soviet. Construction site view. Restaurant out of a grade B movie. Best thing was its proximity to the "Spaceship". Bottom sheets didn't cover the entire mattress. Adequate WiFi. Below average breakfasts. No toast. Cold pancakes
