Visiting student on campus

Very nice rooms with private baths, ours had a whirlpool. Nice decor throughout, dining room is very nice, fresh cooked breakfast, terrific coffee! Free parking, good walking distance to ISU campus. Downstairs is a nice seating area to relax and read, "basement" is set up very nicely where one can play chess or cards, there is also a treadmill downthere.

Great place to stay in Ames. Very warm and cozy.

Lovely room and very comfortable bed. Warm, attractive living and dining room. My favorite place to stay in Ames. We have stayed here several times and every time has been a wonderful experience. All the rooms are uniquely decorated.

April college visit

Wonderful "on campus" location. Got a great feel of campus life. Only problem with late arrival is that we had to eat @ the Pizza Pit...which reared (emphasis on "rear") its ugly head all next day during ISU tour. Good parking. Breakfast was good. Lovely atmosphere, renovated frat house. Stayed in 303, king bed (for me!!) and loft with futon (for my son). Fridge, 2 Tvs, Private bathroom. If my son goes to ISU, it maybe the only place we'd stay when we visit.

Homely and comfortable stay!!

We stayed when we went to Ames for campus visit of ISU. Iowa House is a great place to stay if you stay around the campus area. Restaurants, bars, campus is all about 2-3 blocks from the home. Clean rooms. The breakfast was really good made by a chef that served when you sat on the table. Great place with a homely feeling!

Very nice property, poor owner communication

Stayed for a girl's weekend while visiting a student. The property is lovely and couldn't be closer to campus without being on it. The living room and dining room are very well furnished, comfortable and very inviting. We hung out there quite a bit and enjoyed the coffee/tea/light snacks offered all day. Like being home without all the work.

We had the loft bedroom that had a king sized bed and then a winding staircase up to a loft with a double bed. Very comfortable for 3 adult women and the amenities were very nice.

What was odd for this type of property was the lack of communication. We were never really greeted during our stay except by the chef. Several staff members passed through without a word. And while I like the "let them stay here and leave them alone" approach to B&Bs for the most part, usually you are greeted well at the outset and told how things work. There was a man sitting in an alcove desk that was not especially welcoming, however, he did give us a very good recommendation for a lunch spot. I emailed ahead of timing letting them know one of the guest had a birthday during the stay and that one needed a gluten free diet. For the birthday, there was no response. For the diet, I was told to speak with the chef.

That morning I spoke with the chef who told me if he would have known ahead of time, he could have better accommodated the gluten free diet ....and of course that left me wondering why he never got the notice I gave well ahead of time. Breakfast was superb. It was a bit odd the chef never mentioned what he was serving and just brought it out. We had a vegetarian in the group who did not want the ham on her eggs Benedict and preferred a harder yolk, but he was quick to help her once she mentioned it.

Overall, I do recommend staying there. The facility is lovely, breakfast is delicious and the location can't be beat. We just didn't have much warmth from the staff or help with some reasonable meal accommodation requests.
