A perfect wedding weekend

We hosted our wedding at Castello di Modanella in June this year and cannot recommend it highly enough - both as a beautiful holiday location and as a venue for special events. We had the best weekend of our lives, and castle manager Fabritzio made everything so seamless for us and our 84 guests, who stayed at the castle for three nights. Nothing was too much trouble. Fabritzio arranged for canopies and picnic benches to be set up around the pool for the weekend so that everyone could dine down there, which made it feel like a holiday. We had a big pool party on the Friday evening, and he supplied a sound system and arranged a barbecue for everyone. And everything on our wedding day was just perfect. We got married in the on-site chapel, which I would recommend to any bride as it's such a gorgeous setting for the ceremony, and had our drinks in the gardens where, in the summer months, a huge canopy/mini marquee is erected. This is such a bonus - we looked into marquee costs in Italy early on in our wedding venue search, as we wanted to have a Plan B for bad weather, and the cost was astronomical (around £10,000). Modanella is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and entering the castle courtyard, where we held our wedding breakfast, is like walking onto a film set. I suppose, if I had to criticise anything, it would be the accommodation - the apartments are fairly basic. But at the cost per night, I didn't expect luxury. And our guests were just glad it wasn't costing them too much after travelling all the way over. All in all, it was fabulous. We're already planning our return trip for our anniversary next year! Consistently excellent

There are many beautiful places in Tuscany but Modanella is way above "the rest". The castle is spectacular, the flats beautiful and well equipped with everything one needs on a relaxing holiday in the countryside. The restaurant is excellent and so is the wine. The personell is very helpful and professional. We will come back next summer, maybe even sooner.

Amazingly beautiful but very hot in the summer

This wonderful place is more justly compared to the popular agriturismo of the area than a traditional hotel. We were staying at the 'Sanita', a property off the main castle with a stunning view of the lake and the old castle in the background.
As we are a small family, we stayed in in a nice appartment with a living room/ kitchen and the bed room with our own terrasse and view over the lake from the bedroom windows. The building we were staying at probably had around 10 other appartments all sharing a large pool, so there were plenty of space for everyone.
For some reason, the castle had a large number of Danes the first few days we were there, so if you are a Dane yourself and want to stay away from your own nationality, the place might not be for you.
We absolutely loved staying at the Castle apart from one quite important detail: there is NO air con and no fans, so do not make the same mistake as us and go during the summer. I would imagine the place is magnificent the rest of the year, though, as there seemed to be heating in all the rooms and some of the appartments even had fireplaces. We would love to come back at some other time of the year!

Recenty travelled to Modanella for a wedding and whislt the wedding itself was lovely, Modeanella was so dissapointing.
The rooms were basic at best and did not have suitable self catering facilities. Dimly lit with no cleaning service during the week we were there.
Staff at the castle were unhelpful

I got married here this August and I have to say it was the most amazing wedding, obviously I'm biased but all the guests only had great things to say!! The Castle itself is beautiful and views are amazing!
We saw lots of venues in Tuscany and this was by far the best. I am so pleased we went with it, the day was fantastic and went off without a hitch. The staff were incredible and had everything down to a fine art and Fabrizio, well the man was brilliant!
We hired Sanita and Montagna and the rooms were fab. Typical Tuscan style, lovely and clean and really well looked after, had everything you needed! The food at the wedding was delicious and the cake was out of this world. We asked for a typical Italian cake and it was magnificent.
We also stayed a couple of nights before the wedding by the castle and this was great too, a lovely big room with a great pool. The restaurant is amazing and the food incredible. Modanella make their own wine starting at €5 a bottle and it's great!! I thought our wedding was going to drink them dry they enjoyed it so much!
I will definitely be going back for a visit as it's such a relaxing place and the food in the restaurant is definitely worth the return journey.
