Classy Resort
Emery Mon 19/08/2017 20:42I have vacationed at Jamaica Inn for more than 50 years and always had a beautiful and enjoyable time. The staff is well trained and courteous to all guests. The restaurant is always good and the breakfasts have the most delicious local fruits as well as a spectacular view. My wife and I were fortunate to meet one of the owners, Eric Morrow, for the first time and were treated with the courtesy and respect of welcomed guests. The clientele is generally well-behaved and maybe a little more upper crust than some of the more party-like resorts. We recommend Jamaica Inn to all who want a quality resort with superior attention to detail and service. If you want a resort which is one or two steps above the rest, Jamaica Inn will not disappoint.
British Colonial Charm
Will0ldhamon 19/08/2017 16:04This hotel was incredible. Only stayed 2 nights on a business trip. Ideally located in Ocho Rios, close to down town. Nestled in a private tranquil bay, with its own beach. Wonedrfully peaceful. Very friendly staff and helpful staff. All rooms seem to have a wonderful view overlooking the garden/water. The rooms were clean and tidy and very comfy. I loved having the lounge outside, on a huge balcony, with the bedroom inside. Plenty of anti-mosquito replellants available. What was a great touch was the free rum punch delivered to the room, along with a surprise bottle of white wine, on arrival.
The Jamaican BBQ dinner which they hold every Wednesday, was a lot of fun, just a little expensive for my liking, and on that night the only option if you want to eat in the hotel.
This hotel is one of the nicest i ave stayed in. It seemed to have a lot of repeat guests staying and honeymooners and i can see why. I would absolutely stay here again!
Traditional Jamaican resort
Yanetsi Aon 15/08/2017 03:38This is such a great place to lay back and relax in traditional Jamaican Colonial elegance. The property is stunning with a myriad of tropical foliage and flowers. One of my favorite things about this place is that your living area is outside on the patio. You can just sit out there and enjoy listening to the ocean and cicadas at night.
Just what we needed!
Julia Bon 12/08/2017 19:49My friend and I were supposed to board a cruise ship in Miami at 4:00pm on Monday July 31st. After our 8am Air Canada flight was delayed 8 hours (from Toronto) we had no choice but to meet our cruise ship at the first port which happened to be in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Our great contacts at Red Tag were able to put us on a connecting flight first class from Miami to Montego Bay on Tuesday August 1st. While waiting to board our flight to Miami from Toronto (8 hours later) we had to book a hotel stay in Jamaica as our cruise ship was arriving on Wednesday. We needed something in Ocho Rios and close to the port. We happened to come across Jamaica inn. It had great reviews and looked beautiful. So we were sold!
We arrived early afternoon to warm and welcoming staff, oh and of course some delicious Jamaican rum welcome drinks! We drank ours drinks and finally we're able to relax taking in the spectacular view while they prepared our room for us. Within 5-10 mins we were taken to our incredible room that we still cannot stop talking about! We had a walkout bedroom to a huge private patio complete with living room (not patio) furniture! Amazing! It also included a mini fridge with fresh ice water, a desk, table & chairs and stairs to walk down to the beach/pool area. Our room was beautiful complete with two vases with fresh flowers that were stunning. We didn't realize until we went to sleep that there was no tv in the room but we were so relaxed that we didn't need it.
We got settled in and walked to the beach where we had our own little beach hut and free lawn chairs, bonus! The view of the beach, the sand and the service was incredible! We didn't want to get out of the clear refreshing water. We had lunch delivered to our lawn chairs. Very relaxing day on the beach to say the least!
Afterwards we found out that there was a management cocktail hour before dinner that we were told to attend. It occurs every Tuesday complete with cocktails, finger foods and a Jamaican band. The true Jamaican experience! During this time we had some great drinks from the friendly bartenders. The finger foods were great as well! The management staff all made a point to come talk to us and get to know us and everyone that was at the hotel. We couldn't believe the hospitality that we had received after having such a horrible experience the day before. This was truly a blessing in disguise.
After the management cocktail party, we sat down for dinner on the outdoor dining patio and had a five star dining experience. The food was delicious and the service was amazing.
We let the staff know we needed to be at the port (10 mins away) for 10am the next day. Although they were very sad to see us go, they ordered a transfer for us to take to the port at 9:30. The next morning we were sad to leave but our ride came and before leaving we were told the management staff wanted to come say goodbye. We thought this was so nice! You don't find people like that these days.
I've said it before but this stay in Jamaica was a blessing in disguise. We were not meant to stay a night in Jamaica but we were meant to be here! Beautiful hotel, amazing people, service and food!
I recommend this hotel to couples, girls getaway or anyone who want a quiet relaxing vacation.
A nice place, a nice trip, and some bad luck
David Fon 12/08/2017 15:48The Jamaica Inn is sort of like a bed and breakfast. The staff and owner are really great and attentive to guests. The setting is really nice. The rooms are a little small at first sight but the balcony is very nice.
Our vacation was filled with off-site tours, so I do not think that we took advantage of the hotel's features (mainly beach and water sports).
There were two detractions from our time at the Jamaica Inn. I expect our experience was a bit of an outlier, but we had problems with the room. The toilet didn't flush the first night, and we had issues with water (which I understand was not an on-site issue). We came back one night from the luminous lagoon feeling a little "filmy" from the water only to find out that there was no water whatsoever. It was the worst night to not have water, and we were not very comfortable that evening. The water was back on the next day, but our particular room didn't have hot water. In fact we didn't have hot water until a day or so later. Eventually it did come back.
The other slight disappointment was the food. It is very hit or miss as others have said. The hamburgers are great, but I had at least two sub par dinners. I had a Parmesan chicken pasta where the sauce and pasta had a very "chef boyardee" taste and smell too it. Breakfast is pleasant enough but also pricey.
I wanted to use the water sports equipment, but we were off site all the mornings, and the equipment wasn't available in the afternoons, I guess for safety reasons and no available supervision.
Our trip was a bit of a mixed bag. We missed our first night as well due to a flight cancellation (I don't blame the hotel for that). We tried to extend our stay one night but the hotel was booked. I can't blame the hotel, this trip just had some bad luck. It would have been nice, considering all the things that happened, if the hotel would have done something for us, maybe credit some meals or move us to a suite for a night or two, or even cover that first night we missed (we didn't have vacation insurance, so I guess that would be expecting too much).
I will say, other couples we talked to seemed to be having the time of their lives. We just had some bad luck. But I stand by my ratings (which in ways, based on the price, are generous) based on the issue with the toilet and water and mixed experiences with meals. Some type of accommodation on behalf of the hotel (anything to acknowledge our inconveniences) would have been nice, maybe not fair to expect.
