What People are saying

Very mixed review - not particularly impressive.

RayLouiseCoyleon 08/07/2017 22:55

We came here for a friends wedding and although the hotel was picturesque and suitable for ceremonies, the rooms were a big disappointment. We had one plug for the entire room (which was used by the TV plugs) and the power sockets in the bathroom didn't work, meaning I had to dry my hair in the TV reflection to get ready. It seemed there was one iron for all guests to use, this could be improved upon, especially when large groups are getting ready for events.

We paid for Bed and Breakfast and I was given the option of a Caribbean breakfast, that was too stodgy for the morning, or eggs on toast, which I am allergic to. There were no other options so I was unable to have breakfast both days and no-one seemed to be particularly helpful in suggesting alternatives.

The bedroom was comfortable, but very dated. The air con was not on when we first entered and so the room felt very stagnant.

On the wedding day, guests were mingling before the ceremony and one of the staff members was showing other people around. The venue had been set up for around an hour so I can not understand why they chose that moment to show people around, they even walked through the guests and the wedding planner had to ask them to leave - a little awkward and not considerate at all!

The system at the front desk for charging things to the room is rather odd. Upon check out I was told there was a $23 tab to pay, I asked for a receipt and the bill came to $12.

All in all I would recommend this place for a couple of drinks and possibly a meal (we didn't eat here) but I imagine there are better hotels in the area.

It Is A Palace

georgethillon 17/05/2017 07:59

My wife and I love to drive all over Jamaica, and this year (2017) we noticed a place we had once driven by but missed, so we actually had to look online to appreciate the facilities. As Jamaica is very hilly, you often cant see very far, or see the hidden gems, so online pictures wowed us and we had to take a closer look at this Palace.

We both love traditional settings away from busy tourist hot spots, so Port Antonio is a must visit and stay awhile experience!

Well just a few miles east of town was perhaps the most amazing place we ever stayed. More beautiful than the pictures, the Jamaica Palace Hotel, a place to rest and even stay for days and just enjoy what you can see on the grounds. From the huge pool shaped like Jamaica, to the romantic tables in many secluded places, to the beautiful birds in cages, and the expansive patios, long balconies to most rooms, wow.

If you love art, you are visiting a gallery, unique and antique furniture, amazing spiral staircases, and well manicured gardens, with such friendly workers who love to explain the history and details of the facilities. I think there are more yard workers than indoor workers, but all are very serving, worthy of tips.

The food was excellent, and the daily breakfast included in the stay was deluxe. Many options are available and the waiters are so kind and are welcome to engage you in their experiences. The restaurant is so elegant, with high curved windows, so french and ornate, you are actually sitting in a fairy tale like setting.

The area of Port Antonio needs a few days minimum, and a week is good. But please don't check in late in the dark, and then run off the next day to see a bunch of places. This hotel is for early check in and staying. It is not a budget hotel, but very reasonable for what you experience, and well worth in.

Our room was large, very high ceilings with huge windows, cold A|C, bathtub and shower(rare), huge round kingsize bed, beautiful drapes, balcony. My wife was very impressed

The places we like to visit in the area are the smaller coves, some are free, some to pay for, but all worth it. Boston Beach is a must even if you don't surf. Downtown Port Antonio is a great market place, lots of action, lots of deals, but think like a Jamaican and you won't get taken.

Please study Google Earth before you go to any area of Jamaica, and you will find many places that are worth stopping for, where a your guide won't take you. Also get away from the crowd and go to the small places where people are so friendly and love to get pictures and will tell you about the local spots.

So go and enjoy this unique hotel and you will have so many pictures to share at home, and your friends will be amazed where you stayed.

Great Building Rubbish Restaurant Service

BenYorkieon 14/04/2017 22:59

The building is impressive and sits on a slight hill which gives Ina commanding view down towards the sea. Beautiful grounds and a lovely pool. And for art lovers there is a lot to see and wonder at - some interesting stuff and some rubbish.
We didn't stay in the hotel but went in one evening at 5:00 pm for a late lunch, I guess. The lunch menu goes from 12 noon through to 6:00pm. Menu is fine and the dining room is impressive but the kitchen service is rubbish. Fortunately we ordered the food for our four kids as soon as we got in. That was fairly simple stuff like hot dogs and a cheese sandwich. Adults food - obviously more complicated like soup, salad, cheeseburger and club sandwich x 2. We got that delivered to our table at 6:20 pm - and we were the only people in the restaurant.
Rubbish.

Once a Grand Hotel, but there are some gaps.

joefischeron 24/03/2017 02:37

Jamaica Palace Hotel was clearly a grand place went it was built. My family (2 adults and 2 kids) spent three nights here while in Jamaica. We had two rooms...one on the ground floor and the second on the upstairs level. The Wi-Fi is very poor unless you are standing right by the front desk. It does not work across much of the property and not well at all in either room. The restaurant service is horrible and very slow. After the first lunch, we did not eat here again other than for our free breakfast. The hotel only need some minor cosmetic fixes and it would look great on the exterior. However, the two rooms were a mixed bag. Not all of the lights worked and in some cases had no light bulbs. The AC unit in one room only marginally worked. The TV in one room had no cable attached to it and thus not watchable. Sorry, I would not stay here again. Try the Hotel Mockingbird just up the hill as it looked nice and we had dinner there one night and it was great.

Great Hotel

The hotel is recently renovated. The room was Spacious and clean. Friendly and attentive staff. Great get away. Port lanscape is lush and green. Beautifully decorated. Relaxing. Fifteen minutes from Boston Jerk Center.
