Great staff/average venue
C Son 09/07/2017 20:55Amazing and helpful staff. They all made us feel welcome! I wish there were more food options late night. Mattresses need updating and oceanfront rooms are not quiet at all! You can hear all the property activities from your room.
Very Pleased
bill7405on 09/07/2017 20:01Very happy with resort, the housekeeping, wait staff, front desk all very nice never felt pressured to tip by anyone they truly enjoyed doing their job they were very friendly. Only complaint is the dining hours are late so if you want to eat earlier then you have to eat at the pizza or pool bar area. Would recommend this resort to my family and friends.
Beautiful location, terrible service
885antonhon 09/07/2017 14:57Decided to take a quick little trip to Jamaica, since I love the island and the culture. Amongst many of the great aspects of the location of this resort, is the benefit of being very close to one of the best Jerk chicken stands in the world! Unfortunately, the hotel itself left a lot to be desired. Starting from the check-in process through to check-out, I can honestly count on one hand the number of smiles we received in total from the staff over two days. As a Hilton Diamond member, I don't expect any special treatment, but I at least expect the hotel to live up to the basic expectations that HHonors Diamond members have earned. On this trip, we received none of the benefits, (no upgrades, no welcome amenity, etc.). We also had no internet for the duration of our stay whilst in our room. The resort does have internet access, but our room simply had no signal, and the hotel staff made no attempt to fix, nor move our room to where we had internet access. All in all, the resort was fine, but definitely not worth the money or points spent when comparing to Hilton Rose Hall as an all-inclusive alternative on the island.
Stay away
Jason Pon 08/07/2017 16:17Went this past week from Friday to Friday for our honeymoon. This place is terrible. Started out with no air condition in the room. Went down and complained several times and they finally put a loud box fan in the room as if that would help. There was several other couples who had complained that made it to the resort days in advance of me. Looking back at some of the other reviews this has been an ongoing theme and management made it sound like it just started. This was just one issue. No towels in the morning or water at the gym which is outside and very hot. Then no towels by the pool area in the morning. We booked a trip for dunn river falls when we got to the resort only to find out the older lady booked us for a catamaran ride at some other location and refused to refund our money. We finally after two days asked to be relocated to Jewel Paradise Cove and was glad we did. The people where so much nicer. The resort was bigger with more pools and two beach areas and one in which you can snorkel in. However the food is very bland at both locations and not much to do after dinner till late. If you are looking for good food and nightly entertainment just stay away from the Jewel resorts and I would say stay toward Negril in maybe the couples resort and others.

Ryan Mon 08/07/2017 01:53Stayed from May 28 to June 4, in the Sapphire Buildings (middle building) facing the Ocean. Emailed the resort a few weeks ahead of stay for a comp upgrade, as we booked the emerald (regular room package) via Expedia.
Beach - soft white sand, enough palapas and chairs, and shade if you get up at a reasonable time. This also depends on the time of year. We prefer to sit by the pool and walk to the beach ( which is about 50 steps) No towel cards, take up to 2 towels per person.
Pools - 2 pools, clean most of the time (meaning they get dirty in some of the corners from all the sunscreen) but are kept clean and maintained well with guys filtering and skimming for debris each morning. Temperature is nice.
Bars - Service is good (tips go a long way), alcohol is not skimmed on mix drinks
Night Club - Fun with a group of friends I guess, but was empty when we went in on a Friday night, maybe about 10 people, danced with a few of our friends and then left after about 30 mins
Restaurants - Beach Grill (24 hrs) = food is really good, burgers are great, jerk chicken is amazing as well as the turkey sandwiches and jerk pork or chicken wraps
Pizza - Good, a few good selections, wood fired, and tasty. We aet there a few times after a light dinner
Buffet - mostly did breakfast there. only aet dinner once there and once for lunch, not due to poor quality, but more for selection. Very disappointed that not once in 7 days did I see curried goat, oxtail, or jerk chicken on the menu, or even paties. Funny I had to wait until departing at the Airport in the Mobay Club to get a few beef paties LOL
Italian - nice menu, lots of options, for even someone like me who has dietary restrictions for lactose. There is seating outside on the patio or inside, the patio is very nice since its right on the ocean.
Gourmet - had steak both times, menu was small, not a lot of options. Went for breakfast once, was nice for a sit down and had an omelette and fresh pastry
Coffee bar - has great ice coffee drinks
Grounds - well kept, and beautiful, clean
Rooms - AC not super cold, but cold enough to be comfortable. Bed was on the firm side but comfortable. Shower was a tub combo, and bathroom is small. The double sinks are in separate area with good counter space. There is a walk in closet with safe and good room for hanging clothes.
Fridge - stocked with pop and water. never enough water, so make a point to write an note and ask for extra water. Don't get beer unless you are in diamond rooms.
Time from airport - 45 minutes, took private taxi for $100, well worth it. Bus ride back wasn't too bad.
Tip: Get the Mobay Club for $35 USD per person, well worth the money. the lounge is really nice, you get free drinks (including alcohol) and some prepared foods like sandwiches, salads, patties, etc..., also has comfy seats and free good wifi.
Comments about the hotel:
The hotel is very nice, staff is friendly and happy to help. Tipping is appreciated and not expected. My big beef with Jewel Hotels is that unless you are in an upgraded diamond room you don't get beer or any liquor in your room. this is beyond ridiculous seeing that every all inclusive I have been to gives you a few free beers at least a day.
Its not the end of the world but should be a given. If you get the right bar restocking guy and leave him a good tip each day he will get you some beer, but again, I call BS that having to spend money on something I already paid for, and upgrading for a few hundred a night just for beer is crazy.
Peddlers at the fence - they are harmless, but very annoying at times, whistling and calling to you most of the time you come within ear shot of that side of the resort or go to the smoking area on that side of the resort. A polite wave and a no thanks mon is enough to put an end to the calls about weed or other things :)
Golf - We usually stay at the Jewel Paradise Cove for the golf and proximity (just down the street) from the Runaway Golf Course. The ride to the course from the JDR is $10 per person round trip and about 20 mins. From the JPC its free and 2 mins.
The course is in reasonable shape, has good greens, the bunkers are not in great shape. The caddies are amazing and make the experience worth going again for. One issue, which I have had in December also, is that the pro shop at times seems to charge you a different rate at times than the day before. It should be about $55 per person which includes cart and caddie fee, add another $20 per day to tip your caddy. Green fees are included with your stay at the Jewel Resorts.
Overall, probably won't go back, mostly due to proximity to the golf course, and airport, and overall I like the food and feel of the JPC in Runaway Bay
