Good location

The location is very good, just 1 minute's away from the landmark of Drum Tower, many shopping malls are also in walking distance. The deco is simple; the facility is basic, especially the bathroom; the service need to improve, some of the staffs in the front desk are not patient to guests, they are reluctant to answer clients' question even the question related to the hotel/room.
Good, clean, Inexpensive and good location

I stayed here with a small tour group. Very basic, but clean and cheap-40-50 USD per night. This is a local chain and I was happy with it. The room is small-if you are from the USA, think of a Motel 6. Thin towels, but very comfortable bed. no drinking water in the room (but available for RMB 3 / bottle at the desk.). Ethernet in the rooms, and wifi in the lobby only. Room 121 does get wifi, but as it has no window, I "upgraded"! There are no nonsmoking rooms-well, there are, but my non-smoking room smelled like smoke and has an ashtray in it. Good location-a 100 meters from the drum tower (bell tower? I didn't check). There are coffee shops and a few cafes and bars on the street. Overall, good bang for the buck
Convenient location

Pros: size of beds, room size, price, location
Cons: internet access, desk clerks' lack of English
We booked a room with two beds - turned out to be two full-size beds (what a treat!) in a fairly spacious room with a couch, desk, etc. A little bit dated but more than adequate furnishings. Annoying device that requires the keycard inserted to turn electricity on in room means that you can't use chargers unless you're actually present. Great location, close to small park, shopping, Drum Tower. Taxis available on hotel street, buses on main street (Jiefang) around corner. Cross Jiefang, go through Ningyuan Park to shopping area on Chaoyang Alley. There's a great bakery (Miele?) located on a large square in this area and a KFC on Xinhua E. St. (at some point, it's just easier to go with what you know!) which offers interesting people-watching from the second floor. Very little English spoken anywhere in town, including the front desk (although they tried to help), so you have to be creative with communication. Print a map in English before you go - hotel map is in Chinese! Hotel requires a deposit - make sure you keep the receipt you receive upon check-in and get the deposit back. Wi fi available only in the lobby, which allows smoking. One desktop computer in lobby also, but children were playing games on it twice when we wanted to use it. Crossing Jiefang and catching a bus heading away from Drum Tower to the Tourist bus station, then boarding a bus for Sha Hu (Sand Lake) Park will cost you about one-tenth what a taxi will charge, and the buses are fine. Also recommend visiting China Hui Culture Park, which can apparently be accessed via Bus 302 - we spent a lot more than that on a taxi. It's a museum about the Hui minority culture which is built to resemble the Taj Mahal, has some explanations in English but could use more. Great gift shop with good prices. Make sure you have the hotel name and any destinations written down in Chinese so you can show cab driver or ask questions. Would stay at this hotel again.
Not up to international standards

This is very much a second-class hotel. The rooms are rather worn and the first floor windows have heavy bars on them, with one side directly on the parking lot (no grass, nothing - you can literally touch the cars from your window!)
It is clean, the staff is friendly, and a little English is spoken. Peeling laminate flooring in my room. No international channels on the TV. The room was pretty small and rather sparsely and spartanly furnished.
The hotel is, however, inexpensive, conveniently located, and has a 24 hour front desk.
There are no restaurants, no concierge, no meeting rooms, just a lone couch in the lobby in front of the desk, and no much else.
Given the many other options, albeit at higher prices, I would not stay here again, although for cheap digs, this is not a bad choice.
