What People are saying
mixed experience
em1368on 26/05/2017 06:05Pros (for me):
close to Capital Normal University
quiet room (facing away from the main road)
clean
decent breakfast
good laundry service
Cons:
Smoking despite no-smoking signs everywhere, sometimes a very strong smell of it even in my own room
Mosquitos (in May, in hotel room)
Very slow check-out
Hard bed
Weird moment when I was told as I was getting my breakfast that my deposit wouldn't cover it -- I put down my food and marched to the front desk to take care of it -- the restaurant staff tried to tell me I could do it later -- but why interrupt my breakfast to tell me then?!
At the third ring
Lidia-MUCon 02/04/2017 17:25This hotel is located directly at the Third Ring. I stayed for five nights. My room was nice and rather big, and so was the bathroom. But unfortunately the bed was extremely hard, and the temperature in the room could not be regulated, so that it was quite warm during the night, and I can't say that I could sleep well. The breakfast is very nice, and also the hotel restaurant has a good standard.
Nothing that catches the eye
Daniel Gon 21/12/2016 04:09A good quality hotel - though not luxurious - in a rather uninteresting part of the city (the nearby Black Bamboo park is not easy to reach without jumping over large avenues and the ring). Food is decent though certainly not great, and the rest is exactly like this. Try to get a room facing West, away from the 3rd ring, if you want to sleep. Not a hotel you remember, but at least no really negative memories.
Note the rating choices are "average" or "very good", I would place this hotel in between.
Comfortable hotel though possibly thin walls.
RossOrpingtonon 05/11/2016 07:02I stayed in this hotel for two nights in room 1120.
I was quickly checked in by my hosts. The room comprised a large king sized bed with a sofa, desk, work chair, TV, coffee and tea making facilities and a wardrobe. The wardrobe contained a safe that was easy to use. An admirable feature of the room, which was at the front of the hotel, overlooking a busy road, was the double layer of double glazing which worked extremely well cutting the road noise out completely. However, the walls appeared a little thin as I could hear the noise from nearby rooms as well as footsteps thumping from above, despite the rooms being carpeted.
The bathroom comprised a wash basin, bath, WC and separate shower. There was plenty of hot water whenever I wanted some. There was a slight problem with the shower because there was a gap between the bottom of the door and the ledge, allowing water to escape from the shower unit and flood the bathroom. The shower worked well.
Wifi was fine. Seemed reliable and not slow.
Not sure about the location of the hotel but certainly not far from the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square and many restaurants.
Although I did not try breakfast, a colleague said there was a good selection but it was crowded when he was there at about 08000.
I would not hesitate to stay there again.
Fall 2014
mkunoaon 25/10/2014 03:42I spent a week at this hotel (October 2014). I feel that this was a pretty good hotel and would definitely recommend it to folks. The room was quite good and i would say it is comparable to a holiday inn back in the states. in fact, i've stayed at holiday inns that were worse. Here are some more detailed thoughts in no particular order.
Clientele:
Most of the guests here appear to be chinese. I didnt see too many foreigners. I think this makes the hotel more authentic since we're in China after all and it's a big country.
University:
The hotel is next door to Capital Normal University. So if you have business there this place probably can't be beat.
Internet:
they have wifi in the rooms. speed was good. no problems. as a small aside, watch out if you use gmail in china. the government blocks google.
Smoking:
I'm not 100% sure but I get the sense that there are smoking and non-smoking floors. I was on the 9th floor and there were definitely smokers present. If this bothers you I would ask for a non-smoking floor. One of the funnier things i found was seeing the ashtray right next to the toilet paper in the bathroom. Reminds me when airplanes had ashtrays.
Service:
Never really needed to deal with the folks here but i thought everyone was quite friendly.
Breakfast:
I thought the breakfast was pretty good. They have a very large assortment of chinese food as well as traditional western pastries and bread and fruit. It's interesting but i didnt know that folks ate fried rice here for breakfast. So this can make for an interesting morning. By the end of my stay, i was mixing and matching -toast + fried scallion pancakes + fried wontons.
Subway:
There is a subway station on the number 6 line about 3 blocks from the hotel. it is the Huayuanqiao stop. Head right for 3 blocks or so after exiting the hotel. Its then something like a 30 minute straight shot ride to some of the more touristy sites like Nanluoguxiang.
Surrounding amenities:
There is a bank basically in the same building as the hotel. Also there is a gas station next door. The gas station has a travel mart like in the states. If you keep walking that same direction (right after exiting the hotel) you will find a chinese 7-eleven counterpart. Keep walking and there is a bank, a pharmacy and a bunch of chinese fast food joints just prior to the subway station. Also if you head right, the first building after the gas station is one of the university building complexes. looks like it has foreign students staying there learning chinese. Inside this building on the first floor is a japanese restaurant. there is also a coffee shop on the second floor. Finally, if you head down the first side street right next to the university complex, there is a supermarket at the far end of the street. It has 2 levels with the produce being in the basement.
Other random thoughts:
I thought the rooms were pretty quiet. Had a room overlooking the ring road. If you open the window i gets reasonably noisy since folks honk their horn here a lot. But if you close the window its pretty quiet. Also you dont hear your neighbors or their tv or the shower. so i was pleased that the rooms could be quiet. Finally, they have these elevators that are buffed up so much they basically act as mirrors. thought that was interesting especially when you're riding the elevator down and we're all looking at each other's reflections.
Overall i liked this place. i would stay here again.
