not recommended!
Chris_Holscheron 01/10/2011 12:12We agree with the previous commentator. We also thought it would be a nice hotel with all amenities. The pool has been under 'construction' for 7 years now, it does not exist. That is a blatant lie. Also, we were told there are 3 restaurants in the hotel, a tennis court, and a BBQ place on the roof. There is only one restaurant which is mediocre and overpriced. Coming from a western country it is surprising that a hotel lies so blatantly to customers. In Europe the customers would refuse to pay. In China, clearly different rules apply.
The location is also not good, you need a taxi which is sometimes hard to get. One taxi driver even refused to drive us to town because it was not a long enough trip for him.
We tried room service, but everything shuts down after 10pm.
You are much better off staying in the old town (within the city walls), that's where the restaurants and shops are, and the tourist sites.
Dirty, Smelly & Swimming Pool STILL under construction!
tricky_r69on 25/09/2011 18:31After reviewing this hotel on the internet the reviews it seemed to get were quite positive and with it stating to be a 5 star hotel we thought we would give it a try.
However the rooms were dirty, old food lay on the carpets, bed linen was ripped in places and the room and more specifically the bathrooms absolutely stank! The room looked dated and was not pleasurable to stay in.
As the location of the hotel is not what we thought, we had to take a taxi pretty much every time we left the hotel (which in Xian can be an issue as the taxis are so busy and it is often hard to find one).
The restaurant was again dirty the carpets didn’t look like they had been cleaned for weeks. We tried to order some food from the menu, however we were told that the only option available to us was Spaghetti Bolognese (which to be far, was reasonable). It would have been nice to have some form of options.
On the website we booked from (LateRooms) it states that the hotel has a swimming pool, unfortunately when we arrived we were told that it was under construction (from reading older reviews, it appears that it has been under construction for a number of years.
In summary I wouldn’t bother wasting your time or money staying at this hotel!
A modern, contemporary hotel in an ancient city
David Gon 19/08/2011 19:46Jinshi is a modern property in a convenient location in downtown Xian, though not near the terra cotta soldiers. You'll need a tour or cab to get out there. The hotel offers full western hotel amenities, including a restaurant. There is also a large restaurant in the attached complex offering local cuisine. Most Chinese banks and ATMs are located on the side that is alongside the hotel. I could not locate any wifi within the hotel. The hotel does have a business center available and a rather large gift shop that was willing to bargain.
Should've stayed closer to Bell Tower area
hasammieon 24/10/2010 00:54There isn't a lot of food options outside of the hotel. Carpet was recently cleaned, but wasn't aired out properly so there is a lingering wet carpet smell. Water doesn't drain properly in the shower, thus bathroom smells too. Pool was under construction.
Staff was helpful. There's always at least one person who speaks English well at the front desk. They provided us a card that lists all the attractions in the area in Chinese and English. It helped us tremendously with getting around and back safely. Breakfast was free and decent.
Great Hotel in a Great Location
ptadinon 01/12/2009 04:37I hand-picked this hotel based on the ratings/reviews on tripadvisor.com and was not disppointed. The buffet breakfast was very westernized and the rooms were up to western standards. The hotel staff was also very helpful and friendly. The location of the hotel made it desirable as it was closer to many of the tourist sites and shopping. I would not hestitate to stay here again.
