Historical Gem in the Old Cusco
Mishka Kon 26/06/2017 16:52Located in Cusco's historical district, this hotel is located at walking distance from all of main sites & shops. This used to be an abandoned Convent which was converted into a hotel, bringing old charm / architecture, with modern comfort in a very tasteful way. All staff were welcoming & spot-on from the time we first arrived to check-out. Likewise, restaurant is exceptional... in short, would highly recommend!
Beautiful hotel on historical site.
lisajrhodeon 25/06/2017 06:25Very relaxing environment. Loved the relaxing pool and spa. Staff was very accommodating. Left luggage during 4 day Inca Trail trek and allowed us to get changed in spa/treatment rooms. Take tour of Inca ruins and history of convent/monestary. Only down side is bar service was horrible.
Fantastic hotel
rkacochraneon 25/06/2017 00:41This is the best hotel in Cusco in my opinion. The location is the best- central to shopping and plaza de Armas. The service was stellar and the food was great. We had to summon the paramedic for my son who was having issues with the altitude. He was very nice and helpful.
Most beautiful hotel! Still dreaming of it!
Alyssa412on 22/06/2017 23:28This hotel was absolutely spectacular- I'm not a Marriott person at all. I don't even really like Ritz or Four seasons... usually prefer super high end boutique hotels.
This hotel blows most out of the water. The ambiance is so unique and special.... a converted convent with such a peaceful and gorgeous vibe. I was in heaven. :)
The staff is amazing and (no offense to JW Marriott) well trained like a fine European hotel.
If you are going to Cusco- this is the place to stay. Period.
All my friends and I can't stop thinking about this very unique and charming hotel.
Omar was darling at the bar.
Beautiful!
TripAddict5on 21/06/2017 20:16Without a doubt this property is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed at. As the name implies, this property used to be a convent. In fact, you can take a walking guided tour of the historic grounds every night to learn more about its history. You'll be able to see parts of the original foundation that was discovered under the property. The hotel makes great use of the convent's architecture, especially the courtyard and entryways. You'll be taking photos of your hotel before you even hit the city.
I wanted to narrow down my favorite part of this hotel to one thing but I can't. So I'll list five. The first is their great customer service. Besides all the employees' cheery disposition, this hotel goes out of their way to please their guests. Suffice it to say, they let us keep our luggage in storage with them for three days before we checked in. We had to get to Machu Picchu for a three-day stay and we didn't want to carry all our luggage. So upon our arrival in Cusco and before heading out to Aguas Calientes we stopped at the JW Marriott to confirm our stay and to ask if they would hold our luggage. They obliged with a simple, "of course!"
Their heated pool and hot tub was amazing. They also have a wet sauna and dry sauna but I didn't use them. These amenities are all downstairs from the main floor. So although you can't lay out to catch the sun (you can do that in the courtyard) the good part is you have access to the amenities year round no matter the weather. As a bonus, there are no time restrictions for their use. I like the lighting down there. The pool looks so inviting.
The rooms themselves are quite nice and modern. The pillow-top beds are so comfy it was hard to get up in the morning. But then you jump into the walk-in shower or bath tub, our room had both, and you're ready to start your day. Our room was equipped with a supplementary oxygen enriched system to help guests better acclimate to Cusco's altitude. Some rooms have views to the outside but ours didn't. And that was ok because we still had natural light and a big window that opened to a beautiful view of an authentic Inca wall; history in our own hotel room.
The breakfast buffet, included for free with our stay, was amazing. A lot of variety and delicious. There's an omelette station where a chef prepares the omelette to your specifications. It was a great way to
start our day.
And finally I'll talk about the location. It's perfect if you want to walk out and immediately be in the middle of historic Cusco. There's so much to see and do nearby. If you want to go to Cusco's more modern downtown you'll have to take a cab but the majority of the tourist attractions are within walking distance.
I loved this hotel and I'd be back in a heartbeat. I recommend it for families, solo travelers and especially couples who want a romantic stay. Sure, this hotel is expensive but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Enjoy.
