We've just returned from a two week break at the Kalloni Bay Hotel. We booked a room with a sea view and we were happy with outcome. The rooms were clean, pleasantly furnished and included air-conditioning. The one downside is that the bathroom drain was somewhat 'niffy' on occasions. This did not spoil our holiday however! Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, breakfast was a typical 'continental' style buffet, sunbeds were available poolside and in the well maintained gardens and on the beach across the road. The pool is very well maintained and good for swimming. There is also a little pool for smaller children. Skalla Kallonis village is quiet and has several good tavernas and bars...but it is very quiet in comparison with other holiday locations. We saw this as a big 'plus'. We hired a jeep from an outlet in the village (Dimitris) which we used to visit Petra, Vatari and other places of interest. Kallonis town is a 40 minute walk in land and has ATMs and larger supermarkets. Large sections of Lesvos are given over to conservation. As a result tourist development is low key. This provides a very quiet atmosphere and consequently it's a great place to chill. We found The Kallonis Bay Hotel just right for this.
This is a good hotel.
Nice friendly staff.
We had a great maid who always had a smile and a greeting for us.
Always someone on reception.
Breakfast buffet somewhat predictive and monotonous but pleasnt enough. By the end of two weeks we no longer ate breakfast. We didn't eat there in the evening but had pizzas as snacks which were great. Nice bar and staff but not overly cheap. Odd mistake on bar tab as they don't show you all your signed tabs when paying. (which they should). Manager hangs around as an ominous presence if you question anything. Clean, basic rooms. Shower area small causing overflow of water each time its used. Clean and friendly hotel. Can get a bit rowdy around the pool bar late afternoon/evening with the Brits knocking back the oozo, which does need monitoring a bit in respect of other 'quiter' guests. Our fault not theirs! But the barman sort of joins in lol. Nice pool for swimming. Very close to beach, bars and approx a dozen restaurants. NO ATM!!! You have to go to Kolloni (half hour walk). Nuce lixal shops. Not good for walking as either way the bay is locked in and you can walk no further unless onto main roads. But do not be duped into paying for a sea view at (in our case £178) as the sea is obliterated by olive trees and not quite close enough. Bit cheeky and we felt robbed by this charge. (The reason we marked them down).
Balcony had a leaking air con into a bucket as the pipe had broken
Air con free. OK but not mega efficient but better than nothing.
Local restaurants are fab especially first on you right for everyday snacks and meals. It is a wonderful family run restaurant with great service and nothing is too much trouble. Ambrosia and Caprice restaurants for a special night. This is a fairly good location if you want to drop yr cases a not move much. We hired a car from... yes... you could guess... Dimitris, in the main square. Efficient and cheap
But the mopeds are strangely expensive and knackered. But it is Greece! Overall a good holiday and great if you like to stay in one place. We prefer to walk and get around and thus it is somewhat restrictive here. But a car for a few days remidied that. But a good holiday all in all.
Visited this hotel for the second time this year after great holiday last year .lots of changes some good ( hairdryer, safe in room) some not so good returned here for the total peace and quiet only birds singing this time music by pool to loud several people complained and it was turned off if I want music all day I will go to Benidorm!!! Also new entrance directly from road to pool area people from outside coming in using pool sunbeds etc and compromising security and not paying do not want to subsidise free loaders. Sunbeds on beach has a notice " for hotel guests only " totally ignored and not policed by hotel one day a family had 8 sunbeds not acceptable. Lovel Magda was still there working very hard for 11 hours a day ! Will not be returning have booked another hotel in kalloni for next year .
This is the place to go for peace and quiet. A 600 meter flat walk to the village along the coast road. The hotel, grounds and pool were all kept spotlessly clean. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
This hotel is fantastic value for money, close to the beach (in fact so close the free wi-fi reached the beach). Rooms cleaned daily, pool area is large with ample beds, all staff - Fortinee and Anneta especially - were great fun and so friendly, they really looked after us. Close (5 mins walk)to a little square in Skala with several bars / cafes and restaurants - all reasonably priced. Closest ATM is in Kallonis a couple of miles away but you can pay by card at the hotel and most restaurants. Will definitely return.
