What People are saying

Well located hotel with nice beach and pool

Elodie Mon 07/08/2017 11:28

The hotel is well located , the pool is nice as well as the beach. we had diner at the hotel in the evening and the buffet was nice. The only thing was the staff was not always friendly and helpful: lovely staff at the restaurant but we had paid and selected sea view, however we arrived and our two rooms had a great view of ...a car park! We went back to the reception to ask to ahve rooms with seaview and were told the sea view rooms were sometimes noisy- we never asked for quiet, we asked for sea view. after waiting for 30-45 minutes, they changed our rooms but without a smile. the rooms were on the top floor and had very nice sea view and were nicer in general.

Nice garden, simple hotel, strange deposit requests

donat56on 27/03/2017 17:48

We have spent 2 nights in this hotel, before leaving for St.Lucia, and after arriving back.
The garden is very nice, the beach would be nicely located, but it is full of seaweed, both on the shore, and as you try to go in. We didn't see cleaning attempts but just once.
The food is about OK, at breakfast don't wait till the end, certain things do not seem to be refilled (basic as orange jice fo example, you have to do with the rest)
We could not occupy the room earlier as we arrived from the port, and the first day could not book late check-out. If they were so full, as I have not asked previously I can accept that.
But the most surprising was that when I checked the safe, there was no lock mechanism at all! I found out, I have to go back to the reception, leave 60 Euro deposit, then I get the lock. Strange.
Even stranger is that I also had to leave 30 Euro deposit, to get a card entitling me to a beach towel, on the shore. On the shore, at 2.30 p.m. there were not towels, they could not tell when they will arrive, but assured me it is before 6 p-m- as they close then. Even stranger.
The WIFI was OK, the room was a bit rundown (especially the bathrooms) but basically clean.

Beautiful island, beautiful people!

We spent 11 days/nights over the Christmas holidays at the Clipper with breakfast buffet included. The Clipper is fashioned like a boat with porthole windows in the bathroom. Cute.
Room was clean. Maid seemed to come mostly while we were having breakfast so very convenient timing.
We were on the 5th floor - we walked up & down [we didn't mind the workout] Yes, there was an elevator but I don't like elevators - a few times it was out of service - not unusual for islands. The only thing to be careful was the steps were wet so caution was needed [hold the railing] due to intermittent rains. One side was better as lit had louvered glass.
Breakfast was excellent as was the service & the fabulous view ! Ingrid speaks English but all the others were nice too. A smile goes a long way. My husband does not speak French ; I do some & understand more...
Some nearby restaurants have apps for translation...pretty cool !
There is 24 hr security & it always felt very safe. We've been to many islands so we know.
The beach is beautiful with plenty of natural shade from coconut trees & some chikees. The Lovely Beach hut has bilingual Regis [he has jet-ski tours] & you can buy icecream & beer, etc. Mind you the rum & raison icecream has real rum soaked raisons [not for the kids unless it's bedtime! ;)
I loved watching the pelicans dive for fish. So relaxing I fell asleep on the beach 2 x.
The pool was nicely lit in the evening. The was a gorgeous color changing flower light pole. Water was clean & warm. Lounge chairs stay day & night but no shade during day. Some like it - We used the beach during the day & pool in evening.
The lounge in clean, mostly empty except on Fridays. Don't miss their special folk dance ! They decorated for Christmas & I loved their Frosty Snowman !
There is also a little boutique. Bought a bikini, a wrap & a bowl make with resin & fish scales! It looks like Abalone.
This is a hotel you come to, to relax. But if you want evening action like a Casino, just go out of the gates & turn right - a 5 minute walk to the Casino & a few restaurants.
Le Boss Creperie has great Bokit . If you leave & walk left there are a few restaurants like Safari Pizza, Gwada Taco.
The French know how to cook - so no worries !
Rent a car from Herz. Best way to see the gorgeous island. Plus if you don't want it for the entire stay, pick it up at the airport & drop it off right next door to the hotel. Marie of Herz speaks English too.
The driving is fast but the roads are well paved.
Sites to see - Point des Chateaux with that cross on top & those gorgeous waters. Pink sand beaches in St. Anne. On the other bassetere side of the island pick up some chocolate from Maison de Cacao. The tours are in French. Drive to Jardin Botanique in Point Noire. Gorgeous! Grand Anse beach... There are so many more things to see & do but that is for a return trip !
On Christmas eve they left a little red bag with 4 chocolates on our table.
Would we return? Absolutely !!!

Shower was moldy. Rooms were outdated. Tv would not work neither would wifi unless in lobby. Asked for wifi password one morning and the manager told me I had already received it and didn't want to give it to me again lol. Requested a wake call that we never received through front desk. Booked a cab to the airport through front desk that showed because they never booked it. I witnessed them write down room number, pick up time etc. Front desk would not do a currency exchange until the last day, I have no idea what that was about. Definitely do not recommend.

Popped here while island hopping

Gizorson 10/02/2017 01:44

Travelled to the island and did a bit of island hopping staying here at Karibea.

Rooms ok and above basic, nothing to shout about. Food equally bland. I base this on stopping at resort next door a few days earlier and was so much better.

Bar is slow, food does not compare and not good value. I would come again only if I have to and passing through.

Some staff are very pleasant, but this is a French island and the French are not at there best in hospitality.

Beds comfortable, hard but comfortable.
Subject to where you stay here being a resort. We had a superior room, but did not feel like that!!
