What People are saying

Comfortable, but no style

Broscuta Pon 10/03/2017 21:12

We were there with our son (3), we had a junior suite. Very nice room, enough space, 2 bathrooms, kitchen on the balcony, but not enough cooking ustensilles.
I thinks the hotel should be a bit renovate. It has so much potential.
I would say a bit overprice, but sincerelly, the whole Martiniques' hotels and restaurants are overprice.
There are two swimming pools, a lot of park places and cleaning was one time in 9 days.

THEY MAKE U TAKE YOUR OWN TRASH OUT

Weird policy, nice location, i saw a roach, my parents saw a flying roach, staff spoke english, pools were nice, near the beach. If i had to stay again i would but i wouldnt be excited about it at all.

Good Location, great view

The Karibea Residence La Goelette, Is not a 5 star resort. But it is a nice residence type hotel property. We had a 1 bedroom suite with a kitchenette situated out on the balcony . The view was very enjoyable. It made for a great morning cup of coffee and breakfast. Bedding and fixtures were fine. I really loved the laid back feel of the property, the village of Tartane and beaches in this area. The only real negative I could say about the resort is it could be a diffacult getting around if you had any mobility issues. The parking can be a bit of a distance from your room.
Prequ'ile de la Caravelle was definitly worth visiting. There was awsome hiking trail around the perimeter of the nature preserve with some great views and vistas.

A decidedly mixed bag

Residence La Goelette has so much potential. Really wanted to like it better, but the truth is that it's seen much better days. That said, a hotel being run down is not in and of itself a big deal: We knew this wasn't a luxury hotel when we booked, and we've done enough traveling not to expect a sterile American-style chain hotel. We can handle having one closet and no drawers, threadbare sheets and pillows, no washcloths, two rolls of toilet paper, two bath towels, and one bottle of all-in-one bath soap / shampoo for the entire room. This hotel is very no-frills, and we had to buy literally everything at the grocery store; However...

First, the positive: Amazing view from our junior suite's balcony, two bathrooms, very friendly staff, a clean room, two well-maintained pools, free parking, and a (sort-of) kitchen. Tartane itself is a quiet little village with wonderful residents, delicious food, and spectacular scenery, and Residence La Goelette is perfectly located to explore Presqu'ile de la Caravelle.

The bad news: Karibea Hotels REALLY needs to update their website.

1) Don't advertise an on-site grocery or breakfast when you no longer offer either one. Good thing we'd called ahead and found this out - we bought groceries on the way in from the airport, as the only on-site food options are from very overpriced vending machines.

2) Don't advertise a kitchen with a barely-working refrigerator, two knives, no paper towels or dish soap, and one dish towel as a fully-stocked kitchen. Just don't. So, a second trip to the grocery store the next day, then.

3) The sofabed was so old and stiff that we needed staff to help open it and had to leave it semi-open the entire stay - kind of a drag when space is so tight. Can only imagine how small the non-junior suite rooms are.

Last but definitely not least is a problem that has nothing to do with the room, but that the hotel really has to address: A neighbor's attack dogs just outside the gate by the check-in area. For real.

One night we decided to leave the car and walk down the hill to dinner in Tartane, but right outside the main gate we were literally attacked by two large, scary dogs. Thankfully, they only nipped us - either our screams scared them away or their owner called them off - not sure. Of course we immediately told both the night and daytime hotel staff about the incident, and they were very sympathetic but not in the least surprised - clearly this wasn't the first occurrence. Both staff members said they'd speak with the dogs' owner again, but I'm not at all convinced that another talking-to will do much good. We saw the house (from the safety of our car, of course), and the owner needs more than some flimsy chicken wire to control those dogs. They're really a menace, and hotel guests should be able to leave the gate on foot without being attacked.

So, Residence La Goelette...Arrive with groceries and your own toiletries, washcloths, toilet paper, bath and paper towels (even your own linens and pillows, if you're particular about it), and you'll be fine. Just don't leave the hotel on foot at night.

Good place to stay, great value for money

We had bigger room with view on the ocean and it more than fulfilled our expectations. Bathroom, bedroom was clean, kitchenette fine for basic cooking. Very calm location, still few minutes from the beach. Bakery and restaurants are close as well cca 5 min walking along the beach.
Good location especially if you want to travel around Martinique and make some trips - i would recommend end of the "Tartane peninsula", Mount Pelee (volcano), some distilleries but beaches as well.

This hotel is not 4* hotel or something luxury. But if you go to Martinique, you really dont want to stay whole day in a hotel when there are so many amazing things on the island. And for this purpose Goelette is absolutely fine.
