we have been coming to this hotel for some years and it has failed to keep up with the times. we no longer dine at the hotel. the menu is unchanged from what we had when we first stayed here, and the menu is very limited as it is. this is not a problem because there are some excellent restaurants nearby, in particular we can recommend la vague some five minutes away. plenty of choice and food quality exceptional. the rooms are adequate albeit very basic, we have had much nicer rooms in less expensive hotels. no in room bar/fridge. there is a bottle of water in the room on arrival however, that is not replaced the next day. i asked for a bottle of water the following day and although it was placed in our room, we found a hefty charge for it on our bill upon check out. breakfast is adequate but getting tea or coffee is a bind, they have boiling water in pressurised containers, you have to put a teapot with your choice of tea (plenty of choice) in the pot and press the button on the container which releases a dose of boiling water. quite a hassle. my view is that it would be a lot simpler if they followed the routine of most every other hotel we have been to and just have the waiter/waitress bring you your coffee, tea or chocolate to the table. this would not stop us going back, however, given the choice of cafes and restaurants now abounding in benodet we would probably skip breakfast at the hotel, which is not cheap at 17 euros each, and rather have something light at one of the many cafes on the seafront.

Grey day in Benodet

Brittany was not enjoying summer weather in July; not for nothing is its name similar to Britain. It is a quiet seaside resort, but braving the beach was not for us. We had a delightful lunch in the restaurant of the Hotel Kastel. If we came to Brittany again we'd certainly want to stay.

Relaxing Stay

We stayed for one night before checking into our holiday rental. The area is beautiful with a lovely clean beach, plenty of cafes and restaurants and good walks along the coast. We stayed in a lovely room with a great view of the beach and sea. The staff were friendly and breakfast was delicious with loads of healthy options alongside lovely French breads and pastries.

Good middle class hotel

We stayed in the hotel for 5 nights overlapping "the Belle Plaisance" days (this year from June 26 till June 29). This is a sailing event in Bénodet and includes a competition for older - wooden sailing boats too. Nice to watch the yachts leaving and entering the harbour and very relaxing to look at late afternoon with a nice sun set.
The hotel offers no appealing view on the outside, but the inside is surprizingly fresh and attractive and recently renovated so it seems.
Rooms are nice and practical with enough storage capacity in ours (301). You have a nice view over the harbour and the ocean but the view is partly obstructed by some high trees on the other side of the street. We think this might be worse in the other rooms with seaview.
Personnel at reception was kind and they contacted room service to check if our room was already available since we arrived early. It was !
Personnel in the restaurant was very friendly too but we think there were 2 new trainees helping and these made a few basic errors (like bringing no bread or butter, forgetting to bring knife and fork, not remembering was plates are for which table, ...). All minor things but somewhat annoying if there are too many. But they made up a lot through their friendliness.
Breakfast is of good quality and in buffet form. A nice selection for French standards.
Evening meals were with table service. We had a few times basic products, but of good quality and with a modern look. And at 2 evenings we were really treated with some exceptionally good plates. Wine prices vary a lot, but they also have some affordable bottles of good quality. And they put the remainder of your bottle aside for the next day.
I consider this a very good 3-star hotel, but with one important remark that should be communicated more openly by management. The hotel has a lift, but it does not stop on floor level 3. Also, you need to take some 5 steps (on every other floor) before you can access the lift.
This could cause a serious burden for people with limited mobility and should be known in advance. See in this respect also further room tips.
If you think this evaluation was usefull, please let it know by giving it your usefull vote. Thanks.

Very good 3 star hotel

The location and views are superb. The staff are most helpful and courteous, and sorted out problems when asked.
Excellent breakfast.
No TV channels other than in French: e.g. no international news - CNBC, BBC etc.
Tea/coffee making facilities very poor: no milk - had to purchase from supermarket; kettle lead too short so has to go on floor - dangerous; paper cups; no teapot.
Extractor fans in WC and bathroom did not work.
