What People are saying

Great staff and unexpected extras

Crystal Fon 31/08/2017 17:24

My husband and I really enjoyed this hotel. The staff was extremely friendly, especially the bartender who gave restaurant recommendations based on our interests. There were quite a few little perks that made the stay feel more welcoming such as a daily newspaper delivered to your door, tea and cookies at night, a welcome hour, free parking, keurig coffee maker with regular and decaf, and more. The room we had was pretty small but there was good use of the space so we did not feel cramped. The entire hotel was very clean and tidy. The location was conveniently close to many restaurants and attractions. Overall it was a great stay!

Charming hotel in a great location

We stayed at the King Charles Inn on the penultimate leg of our East Coast holiday having already visited Boston and Savannah. For me this was the most enjoyable and relaxing leg of the holiday. I selected the King Charles on the basis of location, reviews, price and facilities. We had two rooms, both on the second floor; one room had two double beds and the other a King bed. The latter was by far the better room – in fact I would be surprised if this wasn’t one of the best in the hotel as we had a large full width balcony. Unfortunately the view from the balcony was over the hotel car park below. Both rooms had powerful Air Conditioning which kept the rooms comfortable from the heat and humidity of the Charleston summer.
Facilities in the rooms were sufficient for our needs with plenty of storage, USB charging points, TV, safe, refrigerator, ample towels etc. The pool area is nicely compact but adjacent to a busy road, so you get the occasional V8 roaring past with tunes blasting from the open windows. However this didn’t detract from the pleasant pool setting which never seemed crowded or noisy and had plenty of chairs & loungers. At the side of the pool is a slightly elevated area where you can sit in the shade and keep an eye on the activities in the pool which is ideal if you have young children.
Breakfast is an extra but offers very good value when compared to some of the cafes etc in town. I recall that the hotel provides complementary cookies and coffee late afternoon and we also had some light snacks (olives, cheeses, crackers) which too were complementary. Chilled water is also available, poolside.
I would love to revisit Charleston as the 4 days we spent there were nowhere near enough to do justice to such a lovely place and I imagine I would look to the King Charles as my first choice of accommodation.
The only negative point worth mentioning was that one of the rooms we had was opposite a room that had a party of young ladies who were there on some kind of celebration. They were noisy, insisted on leaving their door open (which added to the noise) and left a bit of a mess of ‘room service bottles and glasses’ on the corridor. I suspect one of my fellow guests made a complaint as I could hear him screaming “over three hundred dollars for this noise!!” - I think if it had carried on beyond one night I would have complained too but everyone is entitled to be young and to party 

My lasting memories would include

The hotel staff are extremely polite and welcoming
Rooms are reasonable and well appointed
The pool area was very nice
Free parking
Free wifi
Great location
iPhone docking station is for iPhone 4
Happy hour isn't particularly worthwhile

Ordinary

Room was very small. Decor in hallway faded and dirty. Very tiny pool. Limited breakfast menu. Awkward cleaning staff, demanding to know what time I wanted my room cleaned first thing in the morning. Porter dropped my bag. My son found a used band aid in his bed. Had to ask for room to be made up at 9pm. Hardly any TV channels. The location is good and the bed was OK. And the front desk and bar staff did their bit.

I've stayed at several boutique hotels in the area and I definitely will return to the King Charles Inn. Great location, friendly and professional service, clean rooms, tasteful decor, and amenities such as free parking, free coffee in the morning, and an evening brew pub with drink specials. You can't beat the rates, this was the most reasonable hotel I could find for a quick work-related trip that I booked last minute. Did I mention great location? I walked everywhere because the King Charles Inn is close to everything. Wonderful hotel, wish I could've stayed longer.

Room serviced at 2 o'clock after we questioned delay

George Bon 28/08/2017 05:20

We were told they were short handed that they had a lot of people exiting. If that were the case they should take care of the rooms of people staying on and cleaning up rooms of people exiting after - they have to 4 o'clock to get rooms ready for the new arrivals. I read other people with the same story and excuse - management wake up. All that said place was clean staff courteous - pool, location and on site free parking a big plus
