What People are saying

Quirky country inn

Gareth Lon 11/06/2017 15:05

The Better Half and I were headed to visit family (and babysitting) in the area, and we wanted somewhere close by that wasn't too expensive.

The room was up in the eaves, uneven flooring, terrible signal for both WiFi and mobiles, the ensuite wasn't particularly clean; and when we were talking to the receptionist on arrival, she told us that they locked the outside doors at midnight which didn't bode well for the babysitting.

Breakfast the next morning was okay but not the heartiest of meals that we've ever had.

Very nice firendly place to stay.

I stayed for four nights, for a sad family gathering. The host Tom, and his friendly staff were so kind and considérate. Thank you Tom for making me smile, and for your generous donation to Blue Cross animal rescue. I will definately stay there again.

Never again!

The whole place needs gutting !!! Dirty bedroom/bathroom, Hearty breakfast was a joke !! But the beer was ok!! Very disappointed , such a shame because it's a lovely old building.

Not a place for rest

When we booked the room we weren't particularly concerned about high standards, as it came out of total improvisation and lack of forward planning, therefore it came as ideal for its low price and essentially basic and yet practical facilities. That said, I do believe this venue is not in the adequate to be both, pub for the locals and a place of rest. It is said on the website that the room above the bar can have some noise, and in that respect I take the blame. What I would never have expected is that in a place that's charged for to the purpose of sleeping, it really feels as your bed is in the middle of a disco. Until at least 12.30 am the music was blasting as if the speakers were inside the room. Shouts and swearing of the drunken locals were totally out of control, and in the morning after I was so slaughtered I simply couldn't be bothered with the breakfast (paid for) as I simply wanted to get out. It's the owners decision how to run his own business, and I hold no grudges, nor do I intend to cause detriment to the business, but it's my belief that trying to make some extra money out of some spare rooms on the top of a noisy pub is simply dishonest. I strongly discourage anyone from staying here if they're after some rest; otherwise, spot on with the F&B service, your waitresses are absolutely lovely and the food has an excellent quality. Beautiful XVI century thatched house; loads of potential, just not in the right hands.

Awful!!

Unless you want to feel like your sleeping on a bed of nails surrounded by drunken football hooligans, with cleaning staff that let themselves into your room without knocking! STAY AWAY! STAY FAR AWAY!! Worst place ever stayed in by far. What an absolute waste of a lovely old building.
