What People are saying

Klio Hotel

darren1812on 09/08/2017 12:09

We are currently staying here and all the previous reviews are accurate. In summary this is the most mellow and relaxing place we have stayed. No getting up early to get a sun bed as there is always availability and the pool is lovely. The room we are staying in No 26 is spacious and has been recently renovated. Great shower area. The staff are so attentive Dina, Lea, Rimmi and Maria are all so friendly. This is a very relaxed hotel. The food is excellent and freshly cooked and traditional. If I had one criticism and that would be the very limited all inclusive drink selection and that it finishes at 10pm. If you want a full on international hotel where there is lots of entertainment and masses of People queueing up for food with drink dispensers everywhere you would not like this place. Come here for a relaxing holiday not a party. Also, the beach is beautiful and save for children. Just walk in either direction from the sunbeds for 5 minutes and you will be on your own with no crowds. Yamas Klio and thank you for a lovely holiday. But keep the bottles of soft drinks in the fridge

You get what you pay for. If you holiday there don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. I visited there in June outside the school holidays and whilst it was full, there seemed plenty of room around the pool. I had to ask the cleaner to change the sheets as it looked like urine stains on the sheet. (not mine) the second day I had to ask her to clean under the toilet seat as once again yellow stains. Overall the accommodation was basic but acceptable, the food was only 5/10 with very little choice but it was okay. The staff were very friendly and would do everything they can to meet your needs. Tina who runs the pool bar was very nice and got a drink ready for you before you had to ask. The all inclusive drinks were limited so if you wanted something like gin or vodka you had to pay extra. Brandy I think was included as was ouzo. The beer wasn't bad.

I loved this place!

We've just returned from a wonderful family holiday at Klio. I have gained a few pounds due to the lovely food! We had a lovely spacious room in the main hotel and my only negative is that the bathroom needs upgrading. It was a typical old style Greek shower with no hook to hang up the shower head so you have to hold it .! Anyway on to all the positives- The staff we're all lovely, really looking after you. They couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Maria and Dina were sweethearts going out of their way to help you in any way they could. Sadly we witnessed some very aggressive, rude guests treating the staff terribly yet they still tried to help these people in any way they could .
The food was definitely the highlight of my holiday! Home cooked Greek food - all my favourites were on the menu at some point- Stifado, kleftico, keftedes, dolmades, calamari, spinach and feta pie, mousskka and many others tasty dishes. Every day there was a fantastic salad bar with many vegetables, tsatziki, hoummus, olives, feta, etc. For kids and people who like to eat the same food they do at home their was always pasta and sauces, rice chips , meat etc. The deserts were lovely too and always lots of fresh fruit available.
The hotel was so chilled and quiet - a real family atmosphere. There is no entertainment which I prefer as we made so many friends and it was peaceful. I understand that some people would find the lack of entertainment a problem.
There is lots to do within close range of Gouves- water parks, an aquarium, dinosauria, shops, water sports , lovely beach. There are lots of excursions too. I would recommend a trip to Heraklion to walk around the castle and marina. 2.5 Euro on the bus!
I would highly recommend to those who want a Greek experience in a laid back family friendly setting.

Amazing Family Hotel

Firstly I am going to say after reading reviews on TripAdvisor I was a little confused, lots of mixed messages about this place... This is my very honest review!

Location
This hotel is well located in Kato Gouves, just 20 minutes taxi from the airport and a 5 minute walk to the beach. There's a shop attached to the hotel, which has everything you could possibly need for your stay. You are no more the 1o minutes to bars and restaurants, and its a lovely walk down the street to get to them.

Rooms
We stayed in room 122 which was located in the main hotel, our room was massive, and even though we was all inclusive we had a stove and kettle and all the pots we needed if we wanted to cook. The beds were comfy and we had a lovely balcony to sit out on. Our room was air conditioned, but you had to pay extra for this, think about 80 Euros for 2 weeks, but totally worth it. Also a safe in the room 20 euros charge, to be honest I would not have paid foe this as the rooms was so secure anyway.

Food
The food in all inclusive was amazing. I had read the reviews about the breakfasts etc. and yes they are not UK style food, but your in Crete not Cleethorpes. The food was Greek cuisine, and was one of the highlights of the stay. Traditional Greek food, but also spaghetti, rice, chips etc. so always something to eat for all ages. The main dishes of which there was about 6 a night always changed, and included a selection of fish, meat and chicken dishes. A lovely salad bar, with a fantastic selection of salads and olives and feta etc. The Deserts were just awesome. On top of this add an alcoholic drink with your lunch and dinner and as much tea, juice or fizzy drinks you can handle. This is the first all inclusive place I have ever stayed where we didn't leave the hotel for a meal outside at all which is a total first! Maria looked after us in the kitchens with the 2 amazing chefs in the back cooking, such lovely people and really looked after us during out stay. A credit to the hotel!

Pool/Pool Bar
The pool was a great size, with a smaller pool for wee ones. Never a fight for the sunbeds and sunny all day. The pool bar was run by the lovely Dina and served drinks from 10am to 6pm. Dina works so hard to keep everyone happy and looked after us all during our stay. The whole area was kept neat and tidy and you get cakes and ice creams at certain times, which was great for the kids. The beer was great for me!

Hotel Bar
Run by Rimi, again another top guy! Rimi seemed to do a lot of things around the place, and you would see him pop up during the day at certain times. The bar was quiet on a night, this hotel does not have your usual hotel entertainment like kids discos or parrot shows. In my opinion this is what made the place so nice, old school where you make friends and so do your children by talking to people. Rimi is another credit to the place and his sense of humour will keep you smiling during your stay!

Realise I'm going on a bit now but can recommend this place enough.

Perfect for family vacation!

The hotel was so nice, clean and the staff was helpful, supportive any question we had they always had the answer. Really good location. Shop is in the same building, the shop owner is also really friendly.
