Awful night's sleep

brown-eyed-girlson 22/08/2014 17:21

I had high hopes for this hotel after reading the reviews and first opening the door. Although it was clearly dated, it was roomy and charming. We must have booked a suite because it had 2 rooms, kitchen area and a lovely balcony that overlooked the square and was covered with flowers. The main problem was sleep quality which was the worst during our 2 week trip. To start with, the drapes were in sore need of replacement as they covered only half the window and our room was over an outside light that stayed on all night long and lit up our room. We did not get to sleep until midnight as the bar must have also been under our room and there was a group having a great time. We do not begrudge anyone, so we closed the windows which unfortunately made the room feel stuffy. As soon as the reveling stopped in the bar, we could hear squeaky bed springs indicating more intimate reveling. At 2 we woke up to the loud snoring of someone in the next room! I tried to block out the noise by putting a couch pillow over my head but it must have been very dusty because I started sneezing and felt nauseous. I ended up sleeping on the small loveseat in the other room which was not comfortable. Like another reviewer, we were there visiting our son who is based in nearby Vilseck. Everything was booked in Vilseck and this was close.
The breakfast buffet was just ok. I am a nutrition educator and this place was the only one that served canned fruit in late August, the beginning of harvest season. They also put out only 1 of each for certain items so you could share or wait for replenishment. We were asked at check out how everything went and the young man said "oh".

It was average at best. We only had breakfast durning our stay. The town did have everything and a great beer store across the street. Housekeeping was very nice and did a great job. The room was large.

Loved It

My wife and I stayed in a junior suite for 2 nights while attending a trade fair in Nuremburg. Konigstein is a nice village with a friendly atmosphere. There is a grocery store, a bakery and ATM machine all within 50 metres of the hotel door which was convenient. It was an easy 50km (30min) drive into the trade fair on a mix of country roads and autobahn which made the hotel a great alternative to the well overpriced hotels within 20km of the trade fair.
We were made to feel very welcome by the Pirner Family and their staff. Breakfast was included each morning and we had dinner in the restaurant both evenings. The meals were great value and we enjoyed them with local Bavarian beer.
Our suite was a good size and very comfortable. Our room was on the third floor so the lift was handy for our luggage. Car parking was in a security lit area at the rear of the hotel.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Konigsteiner Hof and we would not hesitate to stay again.

Felt like home

I was in town with my hubby because we are traveling through Germany. One of our friends recommended the hotel, because he used to stay there when he was working with the nearby US Army base. The staff is really nice, the young do speak english and all of them are very helpful and caring. We had a pretty room, nice and clean furniture. We really felt comfortable and cozy. The food is like you're expecting a german cuisine. Breakfast has everything you need and as we also had dinner there, they have a variety of german dishes. As they also own a butcher's shop next to the hotel, the meat was always fresh and that's what you realize at the first bite.
All in all there's nothing I could complain about.

Good room, awful food.

The only redeeming factor of our stay in this hotel was the room. Having stayed in many towns in Germany, my wife and I were even impressed with the size and coziness of our double room (thin walls however) but the service and restaurant seriously need work. Both of our meals were borderline disgusting- but since the portions were very small we did not waste much food when we decided to finish our meal at another restaurant and hopefully get the taste out of our mouth. Service was definitely not motivated to make a positive impression as the hotel made every attempt to save money with the small servings. I will not be eating here again, even though the weeks meals are already paid for. From the consistent impression of two nights, I recommend that any service members/DA civilians avoid a stay in this hotel and request another ASAP due to the awful quality of the included meals, however if your dinner venue is your choice you will probably be satisfied with your room.
