AWESOME PLACE
740vanon 04/06/2017 20:23I was passing through to Phoenix and my daughter booked a room for me here. This is a GREAT place to stay. It is nestled in the forest with a creek nearby. The place has a restaurant with bar. All kinds of activities for families. I had a studio room which included stove, dishwasher, fridge, microwave everything you need to cook including table ware, pots, pans, bowls, and more, I mean everything you need! Sliding glass doors that looked out on to the pool and bar area. Everything is clean in your room, great western style furnishings. My daughter paid in full for the room through Expedia, they do have a $100 dollar deposit for any incidentals, which I did not have that much on my credit card they were extremely accommodating and reduced the deposit, which was immediately refunded after I checked out. I highly recommend this place and hope I can stay longer next visit.

Bruce Hon 03/06/2017 16:26This lodge is inspired by a working-class aesthetic and is not "upscale." It is attractive, but utilitarian. Our studio room had been recently remodeled, and it was attractive, clean, and comfortable. Although we were beside the pool, "house rules" limit noise after 10:00 PM, so sleep was not disturbed by outside noise.
Inside noise was also not a problem except for one strange phenomenon: The refrigerator goes through a cycle for many minutes that sounds like a kid blowing bubbles with a straw in a glass of milk. Very annoying in the middle of the night!
Ambient light is also an issue -- with much creeping in around the curtain, and much from the display on the microwave.
Internet access was frustrating. I required technical assistance to log on the first time, and service was often so slow or absent that I was unable to accomplish necessary tasks.
The layout of the room is also not ideal: The only "good" place to watch TV is from the bed, and some of us have learned that the bed is best reserved for other activities.
The resort offers few, if any, activities. We eagerly awaited the free wine tasting on Thursday, only to discover that the Thursday on the schedule was Thursday before we checked in. The schedule of activities runs Sunday through Saturday, so if you check in late in the week, you need a schedule for both the current week and the following week.
Also, be aware that Kohl's Creek is about 15 miles from Payson, so be prepared to drive for anything you might need except an escape from civilization.
To their credit, all of the staff were friendly: I think every one of them spoke to me when we passed in the halls. And the Lodge is in a lovely, quiet setting.
Day trip from Phoenix
bluelagoonon 03/06/2017 09:13This lodge is right by the Tonto creek. It's a fun place to fish, play in the water and cool off. This place is nestled among trees. It's easily accessible from the road. It's a great place for a break from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Nice and Quiet - exceptional resort
Claudia52on 01/06/2017 17:22My husband and I spent a week here mid-way on our one-month road trip. Nice studio room that was nicely stocked and clean. The restaurant has an excellent menu with ample portions. Staff friendly and helpful.
Peaceful Retreat
seaglass427on 28/05/2017 05:50Wonderful surprise. Took a chance and so happy we did. A 3 night stay in a studio, which is the size of your standard hotel room. Super clean room, wonderful and friendly staff. Pam the young lady who checked us in was so sweet and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept. Lots to do, or do nothing and just enjoy the Tonto Creek. Also the food at the grill is excellent. We dined there twice and just love both meals, great food and service. Hope we get to return soon..
