What People are saying

Magnificent hotel in a stunning location

sfergus1979on 26/07/2017 11:25

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Les Baux - it is essentially down in the valley with the village sitting high up on the cliff top.

Check in was comfortable and good English was spoken. The porter especially was very helpful with our car and giving us info about the hotel.

Our room was more of a suite. Very spacious and very nicely decorated. Outstanding wifi, great air con, good products in the bathroom, big TV. Great free coffee in the room and free apples in the lobby. Two bottles of water were also provided every day.

There are two pools at this part of the hotel. The one near our room was the main one and it was in a really nice area with a bar and loads of beds / towels.

The maids were very friendly and quick. Our room got made up every morning very quickly.

The food in the restaurant on site was very good. We had breakfast twice and dinner once at La Cabro d'Or. Great food and great service.

It should be mentioned that La Cabro d'Or is not really a normal hotel's second restaurant. It is definitely not 'casual' as the hotel describes it. It is pretty high end from both a quality and cost perspective. Main courses at dinner were about €50 each. This really prevented us from eating there more than once.

Breakfast was good. When they say it goes until 10.30am they really mean it! The buffet stops at exactly that time so don't get there after 10.15.

You need to reserve the Cabro d'Or well in advance for dinner. One day at 5pm, we tried booking a table for two for that night and were told they were full all evening. Unusually, they don't hold tables back for hotel guests. This is an issue as the only other on-site option is room service which is not ideal and also very expensive. We had to drive to a local village to eat that night. Annoying.

Food is the one downside of this place. There is nothing to eat after 3pm as the pool bars stop serving (tough when you check in at 3pm and haven't eaten). We were told that room service wasn't an option in the afternoon either. I'm not sure what you are expected to do, but this seems an issue in Provence generally. Everyone seems to eat at exactly the same time and all the restaurants are only open for bookings at certain periods 12-2pm and 7-9m.

The other part of the hotel is 1k away up a hill. You can either walk or drive, but there is no real pavement so not ideal to walk at night. We had lunch at the two Michelin star restaurant once and it was excellent. A separate review has been done on here for that. There seems to be a hotel taxi service between the two locations but this was not offered to us so we just walked.

The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and the views from everywhere make it what it is. Les Baux is a beautiful village and a 5 minute drive or 20 minute uphill hike. You must visit it at least once. We ate there twice.

Despite a few food related moans, I would 100% recommend this hotel (just pack some emergency snacks!).

Not baumaniere.....very Bad-manières......

jjjaaa_10on 15/07/2017 16:05

Once upon a time there was a lovely classy hotel with about a dozen rooms and a great restaurant called l'ousto de baumaniere. The owner made so much money, well deserved at the time! That he decided to buy another hotel and many houses one mile away from the original and rename the WHOLE thing baumaniere so that he could maximize his profits...
Having stayed many times in the original hotel, we were sent without any justification to what is for us another hotel...totally nondescript with zero charm. Imagine if you had booked the Ritz in paris and you were sent to a hotel owned by the ritz one mile away....this is totAlly unacceptable and unethical, it is shameful for the hotel and for relais et chateaux!
Prices are the same everywhere, very very expensive especially if you do not get the 'original' and nobody tells you in advance
To make things even worse, we were told that there was no table for dinner at the restaurant and that we had not booked in advance...they say they did not have our address to advise us, but they had our address to confirm the booking !,!

These people are very crooked and visitors should therefore not stay there under any circumstance, there are so many other very charming , and cheaper properties and hotels around here and in saint REMY....

Avoid this place at all cost and make sure all your friends know

Provencial Luxury, Gorgeous Hotel

We stayed at the Baumaniere for several days for our Honeymoon. We were blown away by our entire experience. The hotel is located in a beautiful valley surrounded by high hills and rocks, beautiful vineyards, and olive orchards. The grounds are spectacular- gardens, paths, and terraces to explore, relax in, and eat in. Our room was in the Manor house and came with its own private terrace where we ate breakfast most mornings and dinner one evening. The room was clean and we received both a morning cleaning plus an evening turn-down service. The staff was always extremely accommodating and willing to offer advice. We ate at both restaurants and would classify them as dining experiences rather than just a meal. The food is remarkably prepared, and each course is some of the finest food we have ever tasted. While we were there, we enjoyed the garden pools most days, spent a morning at the spa, played tennis and went for a hike, and ventured up on foot to Les Baux des Provence and toured the medieval castle ruins. We had a luxurious stay and cannot wait to return!

Great place and good history lessons with nice shops and restaurants

Went here twice since it is a lot to take in
Its a long walk it you decide to see everything, but the good thing is that you can stop whenever and wherever you want. Coffe shops and restaurants every corner
You actually take a walk in history
We all enjoyed it tremendously
Will be back

A property that seems to have been hard hit by its own success

Georgy Don 05/07/2017 16:13

There are two part to the property. The old wonderful building surrounded by whimsical gardens, that has an incredible atmosphere. Then there is the new building and its surroundings that is a good quality guest house/hotel in Provence - pleasant but not special. And then there is the monstrosity of the new reception building - looking like a car dealership thought up by some Californian architect to the taste of a newly minted car-dealer millionaire, you get the whiff. So, very mixed feelings about this hotel - if you come, and you should - if only for the gastronomical restaurant and for the village of Baux - try and stay in the old building. Oh, breakfast was a disaster - our poached eggs seemed to have been boiled in vinegar. Overall, I think I could stay here again, the value was surprisingly good for Relais and Chateaux
