Beautiful situation.
Tasmin10on 27/05/2017 12:48Situated on banks of river Lot. Too far for older slightly disabled to walk into town. However it was a good place for an overnight stop. We drove into town and were able to park and have a drink at a very local bar. Our room was spacious and efficiently cooled by air con and had a minibar. Very clean and big bathroom. Dinner was on the terrace overlooking the river, a perfect situation. Extensive wine list and good variety of menus. I had the most amazing coquilles st jacques . Whole meal for us both delicious but a bit expensive. However worth it! Maybe too many stairs for disabled, access to hotel and to restaurant. Good breakfast. We would use this hotel again if in area.
Nothing ordinary
jppelton 31/03/2017 07:08Some have said it is just an ordinary and basic hotel. It is true, there is nothing special about the rooms or architecture. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. We stayed as a family of four and had a nice room with balcony overlooking the Lot river.
That being said, this hotel itself is special. The staff is nothing but wonderful. If you ask and talk, you'll find that turnover is minimal - if non-existent. It seems that most of the staff has been around for more than 10 years. That says something.
The food is very very good and local. You'll find most local delicacies, including my favorite: cabecou goat cheese from Rocamadour. They are also next to "Les Saveurs de Cahors" (I think that is the name) where you can find some exceptional local wines and delicacies - I would recommend anything from Clos Triguedina - wines by Jean Luc Baldes. Prince Probus is something you'll never forget. Go to the vineyard!
To go to Cahors, there are two options: 1) You can walk across le pont L. Philippe and be in upper Cahors in about 10-15 minutes. 2) There is a shuttle that departs near the St George Pizzaria (very good) - a 5 min walk - that goes across Cahors all the way to Terre Rouge where you can find the local public pool. Of note, the shuttle stops less than a block away from the train station. If you take the train from CDG, you can jump on the 'navette' and it will take you near "La Chartreuse" and other places in Cahors.
There is a fantastic boulangerie/pattiserie that has been in St George for 24 years. They are but a block away. If you do not include the rather copious morning breakfast in your bill, you can walk to Pattiserie Dhaisne. Their bread is superlative and you can even get a coffee to go. Hard to come by in Cahors - for good reason really.
In sum, while ordinary from a brick and mortar perspective, La Chartreuse is very clean, boasts an exceptional friendly staff, is very 'local' and has so much to offer if you stay more than a night en-route or on business. Consider staying there if you really want to get to know Cahors and spend some time in the community. You will not regret it.
PS: If at all possible, get a room with balcony overlooking the river. You'll enjoy a snack, a meal or reading a book while on the balcony.
Basic but Adequate Hotel
U1236AQsusanmon 26/10/2016 12:39Hotel is good value for the money and comfortable and clean with basic decor.....right on the river. Room was small but bathroom was large and modern. REstaurant was very good. Hotel was in reasonably good location for seeing Cahors and sites in surrounding area. We could easily walk to the old city and famous bridge in town. Would stay here again and recommend to others.

beautifully sited on the banks of the picturesque river lot.
no frills, no fuss, our group of 30 were very happy.
clean with good food and service.
Return for the wine!
M4988MKjeremylon 06/09/2016 13:09We first visited La Chartreuse a year ago. It is comfortable, with a good restaurant situated on the banks of the River Lot. The menu and wine list are excellent and well worth a stop just for those. It is also close to a Cave selling local wines and other regional specialites. We'll definitely stay there again when we are in the area.
