Wonderful relaxing and healthy break in splendid natural surroundings

The spa area is delightful and the food both nutritious and tasty. We enjoyed the walks around the property and exploring the area, especially the Lalique musuem and Maison des Rochers. Great, friendly service and wonderful treatments in the spa.

rejuvenating getaway

I had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here. The combination of a great spa, delicious healthy food and the proximity of extensive hiking made for a rejuvenating stay. If you don't have a car its necessary to take a taxi from the train station, but this worked smoothly.

lovely experience

It was a great experience. The countryside is wonderful. The staff was very hospitable, and the facilities were modern and clean. A time much enjoyed. The food was quite good too. I especially enjoyed the variety at the breakfast buffer.

PEACEFUL, WELCOMING, DELICIOUS – LOVED IT!

I decided to return to La Clairière, which I had previously visited with the family 12 and 13 years ago. Since then, I’ve been all over Alsace and Germany to various hotels for Christmas, all of which I have to say were wonderful. I was curious to see what changes Lisbeth and Kareen had made in the intervening years. I was not disappointed. Of course, the hotel has the advantage of being in the middle of a nature reserve and forest, and of benefitting from incredibly pure air and a geological environment which seems to lend itself not only to an interesting landscape; but also, a mesmerising effect on the body and soul. Coupled with this, the wonderful spa which has been built; the fabulous healthy and organic food which is served; and the warm helpful attitude of all members of staff without exception, result in a wonderful experience. I didn’t want to leave, which I think is testament to the beauty and quality of the hotel and its staff.

not all as advertised

We enjoyed our stay overall, but were surprised by two aspects: the days we stayed, only one class was offered (yoga, etc.), and at inconvenient times. For example, upon arrival, we discovered that the only class of the day had already started and it was too late to join in. The following day, there was only 1 class during breakfast, and we did not want to eat breakfast very early and then take a class on a full stomach (it is common practice to not do yoga on a full stomach). Since we were on half-board, we didn't want to skip breakfast entirely. We have stayed in other places where guests are notified ahead of their stay about the class schedule- we could have arrived an hour earlier in order to take the only class of the day. Please note, the classes are not free for guests- another surprise!

Half-board guests do not have access to the full menu in the restaurant, so if you look at the menu online, do not think you can choose any of those items if you register for half-board. Most of the items offered to half-board guests tasted very good, but it was strange to see other guests with larger menus and different meal items that we were not "allowed" under the half-board plan. The breakfast was a good buffet, but the dinner choices were limited to 1 soup or 1 salad/cold appetizer, 2 entree choices, and 1 dessert- hope you like it. The portions were small as previously mentioned but we did not feel concerned about that- it was definitely enough for a healthy meal. There was a bowl of fruit at the reception, and we always travel with small snacks such as nuts, crackers, chocolate, so we did have some of those in the room. Also, half board is charged for all beverages, even non-alcoholic such as tea, but the carafe of water at dinner was not charged for.

The spa area is very small, but nice. The first day was ok, but the second day was very crowded, with not enough space for everyone in the room. There were about 10 chairs for 20 guests- of course not everyone wants to sit in a chair, but the entire space was stuffed full of people and chairs. I hope in the future that the indoor space can be made larger so that during the winter months there is enough space for all the guests.

The room was fine and the region was nice. Wifi in the room only works when the television is running, which I found very disruptive in a spa-like environment. I do not want the television running in the morning or every evening just so I can check my e-mail and look at some websites- even if it is muted.
