Cheap and cheerful
Oldfather_Johnon 28/09/2016 16:47Absolutely bang on one star hotel. Rooms above a bar, NB no lift, but the manager carried our cases upstairs. Very friendly welcome, room was small but spotless. Amazing shower, best ever. Quiet. Comfortable double bed. Good aircon. About 50 yards from the water bus to Toulon centre, which costs €1 per day, and very handy for the marina at La Seyne.
La Seyne is unpretentious, to put it mildly, with some basic but OK restaurants/ brasseries. It did feel a bit dark and edgy when we got further from the harbour at night. But all that was forgotten when we went to the fantastic Sunday market, mainly food, which we thought better than the one in Toulon.
I felt we got very good value.
NB the restaurant looks good but was shut in the evening. We had good grilled fish etc in the brasserie along the quay, or to the right up the side street the hotel is on.
Erm... that was interesting!
Philip Bon 07/08/2016 08:58Again, another review where I will speak open... People who work here are nice but you need a level of French speaking ability to stay here.
Parking is not free although you can play Russian Roulette with the traffic wardens and the local disks in cars between 14:00 - 18:00 daily.
Hotel is clean but has no lift if you are on the 4th floor with heavy bags!!!
The 4th floor, don't open the windows as you will get a nice waft of local sewage for the duration of your stay that never goes away!
If you want a cheap and cheerful hostel not hotel, this is for you.
The area is nice and typical of French ways here where restaurants do not open until 7pm. The ferry to Toulon is nice past the French military ships and Toulon itself is big!
Weird but (not quite) wonderful
Dyetizon 20/08/2014 18:47Upon arriving at the hotel, it was a little strange to access it via a Bar, in fact the reception is the bar. A little strange, but everybody was very friendly when entering, they are talkative & make you feel welcome as well, although be prepared to listen to moaning when they're trying to take a card payment & the phone rings!
The rooms are very quaint & have everything you need. The only problem is that the door is not soundproofed, so you hear everything via it. Despite this I still managed to get quite a good nights sleep.
The breakfast, whilst served by friendly staff is also a little strange. You eat it in the bar (where members of the public also enjoy their drinks) you get (for 2 of us) a basket with 2croissants, 2 pain-au-chocolate brought to the table with a small glass or orange juice & your choice of hot drink, which for €6 I was expecting at least a plate to put your croissant on, and some butter/jam, but this may be personal preference.
Check-out was easy & again the staff were very friendly. Depending on your room situation you could actually end up with a beautiful view of the port, i was not so fortunate & got a view of a building next door & a driving school.
Overall it was a nice hotel, a little different from what I've experienced before, but did the trick!
Convenient for harbour
Steve993on 13/08/2012 17:01I arrived in the early hours of the morning to find the hotel in total darkness. Having pre booked a room and been given a key by the driver who met me at Marseilles airport, I let myself into the hotel and made may way cautiously up the stairs - and was relieved to find that the lights were automatic. Room 13 was very small but spotlessly clean with freshly laundered bedding, towels and efficient aircon. The WC was in a small cupboard sized alcove and the shower opened directly into the room. Several lightbulbs were broken, the aircon produced a puddle that ran under the door into the corridor and there was nowhere to hang clothing. However, I had a comfortable nights sleep and considering the cost of the room, I couldn't really complain too much. It was somewhere convenient to crash for a night.
