What People are saying

Girls Weekend in Sante Fe

Karen Pon 27/08/2017 02:33

A charming place!!!

This is one of the most charming hotels in Santa Fe.

We had a nice size room with a living room and a fireplace..
Just charming.

The staff where very friendly.
Had a fantastic blow out at the salon.

Enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the morning and wine on the patio by the fire pits in the evening.

The hotel was in a great location. You can walk to all the shops and restaurants..

Forgot to mention it's a starwood property.

If I get back to Sante Fe.
I will stay here again.

A Garden Paradise

gardnermankeron 24/08/2017 01:09

We returned to La Posada. We were last there 2 years ago and they were having service issues then. I am happy to report that those seemed to be resolved a we had no service problems. The servers in the restaurant were serving food promptly this time. They did not have the room that we reserved but they resolved it satisfactorily. What brings me back here is the gardens. They are a paradise! There are flowering bushes everywhere and interesting sculptures to delight you. We will definitely be back!

Easy access to the square and skiing

We stayed here in January. It is my brother's favorite hotel-he request the same room each time. It is cozy, all rooms are different and unique, and they have some nice evening events for guest. The Kiva fireplaces are a must on the chilly evenings.

The staff is very accommodating and helpful. We will be back!

Great Hotel -- Horrible Housekeeping

myaria2000on 19/08/2017 05:35

We've been coming to this hotel for a few years now and love it, but I keep putting off leaving a review because of the atrocious housekeeping. Every time we stay I can come up with an excuse for why the housekeeping was abysmal, but after all of our visits being awesome except for that, I've come to the conclusion that housekeeping is somehow broken. Issues that constantly frustrate us are: having our room skipped or not being serviced until very late in the day, not having towels replaced when the old ones left on the floor (we usually recycle ours) were taken, not having used toiletries replaced (and we NEVER take any as souvenirs -- would just like to actually have more than a used, half-bottle of shampoo available for a family of three), not having the in-room cups and glasses replaced or even cleaned, not having old bar glasses left by the used coffee cups taken, and most importantly -- this only happened once -- not having our door left completely open for the entire day, especially since our room was right off the street and sidewalk. Also, and I think this may be a hotel thing and not a housekeeping thing, but although there are separate bins for trash and recycling in the room, everything is put into a single trash bag for disposal, so the recycling program is either been ignored by housekeeping or is only a pretense by the property.

That all being said, we absolutely love La Posada. Each room on the property is different, with most of them being part of rambling adobe casitas with anywhere from a standard room setup, to a full two-bedroom, two-bathroom flat. (Plus there are the specialty suites that are even bigger.) Many of the suites have working kivas, and the resort provides wood, newspaper, and firestarter bricks, as well as being more than happy to get a fire going for you. I'm pretty sure every room we've stayed in has had a mini-fridge in it, and there is a great Keurig coffe/tea setup in each for sure. Since each room is different, though, the management is VERY accommodating to help you find a room that better meets your needs if there is availability.

The best part about staying at La Posada, however, is the staff. Such awesome people, and although I'm sure they must be briefed each day about who the returning guests are, it is striking how some of them have put forth some serious effort into remembering you and calling you by name as you drive into the property. The valets are your first impression of La Posada, and they go above and beyond, and look cool in their unique Santa Fe "uniforms" -- especially those hats they wear in cold weather! These guys get your car in no time, and are also happy to drive you nearby for free in their van, even if it's only a few blocks down to the Plaza because you have been walking all day and just don't want to walk any more. Special shout out to Richard for the spectacular care he always takes of us.

And then there's the Staab House. The warm, cozy, wonderful bar where sometimes you have to jockey for a coveted position by one of the wood-burning fireplaces, even in the summertime. This is the original house that the resort is built around, and has dark walls covered in funky, colorful local art that is available for purchase. There is a lovely patio with deep sofas and cool gas fire pits that looks out onto the restaurant courtyard. You can order almost anything on the restaurant menu to be brought into the bar, which is what we typically take advantage of since it's our favorite place to be. We LOVE the interesting drink selection, and after a number of visits have "our" drinks that just mean Santa Fe. I can't tell you how many Facebook posts we have of the same two drinks, because that means our vacation has started. All the bartenders are fantastic, but we have a very special place in our hearts for the guy who tops them all -- Eric. Drink-crafter Extraordinaire! He is THE guy to go to for anything you want, although all we ever want is a Vieux Carre and a Market Gimlet, with a scoop of ice cream for our daughter.

You must check the resort activity sheet so you don't miss s'mores over the fabulous fire pit (or "cauldron of fire" as we tend to call it) on the patio, or inside in the giant fireplace if there's inclement weather. We've done a couple of wine and cheese tastings, and I know there are more activities, but we tend to stay rather busy while in Santa Fe. The restaurant is VERY good, too. I tend to be too picky about hotel restaurants, but this one stands out as interesting and fresh. Nothing on the menu is "standard fare", so we are quite pleased with the food, and the service is excellent as well. Also know that you can get a s'mores kit brought to your room through room service anytime!

As a family we had been planning to buy a property in Santa Fe, but after staying at La Posada we changed our minds. Why take on a house when you can be cared for like family at a place like this. First-rate, despite the crazy housekeeping, as evidenced by the five-star review. Thank you, La Posada. See you very soon.

So Disappointed

hummummeron 18/08/2017 00:29

I had promised myself I would only post positive reviews, but thought this review of La Posada was necessary due to letting people who would otherwise spend the money to stay here know about the resort's deficiencies. I am a platinum Starwood member so all this resort cost me and my family are the daily resort fees of $30. Usually as a platinum member I'm upgraded to a better room or suite. I'm not sure we were here as we were woken up quite early by the maintenance crew starting work from outside our room. I think the supply room is right outside our room. We were given the option of breakfast or points as our gift, we took the breakfast. At first they wouldn't accept the voucher the front desk gave us, then finally took it, but said it wouldn't cover all of breakfast. No problem, I gave the front desk my Starwood credit card upon arrival. Why make a big deal out of it? Next, we decided to ask the concierge about making dinner reservations--uh, he told us the best places to eat southwestern food didn't take reservations and gave us a list of touristy restaurants that he thought would suffice. I ended up making a reservation on Open Table for our dinner. Next stop was the spa, supposedly #4 according to USA Today as they advertise throughout the resort and in their correspondence, to make reservations for spa treatments. Well, they're all booked. Decided to use the eucalyptus steam room instead since it's part of our resort fee. The one in the men's locker room is down, so my husband can't partake! I used the one in the women's locker room. Nothing to write home about. Granted we're used to spas at places like the Fairmont Grand Del Mar or the Ritz Carlton, but I definitely would not rank this spa in my top 5. Usually I'd complain to management, but it appears from other reviews it didn't do anything.
