The Great & Not Great. Only Review to Read.
Steven Mon 07/06/2017 17:23If you are looking for a secluded authentic old world glamour Italian experience this the Posta Vecchia Hotel is for you. We just finished our 4 day stay with our two younger boys but please understand the following:
This hotel is very very secluded. There really is nothing to do outside of the hotel and the town of Ladispoli is small and NOT a tourist destination. We took a taxi to Rome one of the days (50 minutes/approx $90 Euros each way). Other option is the train but you need to take a taxi to the train station. The seclusion makes an extended stay difficult at the hotel unless your are specifically tying to disappear and go off the radar.
Accommodations 5 out of 5 Stars:
We stayed in the Medici Suite which is one of the best (as well as expensive) rooms in the hotel. It was spacious. Keep in mind this is the old Getty estate converted into a hotel - but they have tried very hard to keep the feeling that you are staying at an estate (not a hotel) - so the bathroom/shower/sink area while very large, was not really 5 star hotel quality. However based on the history of the estate and the "feel" of the hotel it made perfect sense. Otherwise the beds were perfect and the rooms were clean with period furniture and amazing sea views.
Staff 5 out of 5 Stars:
Staff was wonderful and attentive. If you need something just ask for it. No complaints and very nice.
The estate itself 5 out of 5 Stars:
Amazing renovated Getty estate, who at one point was the richest person on the planet. You feel that you are a guest on his estate and there are many rooms and areas to explore. The children enjoyed the large lawns, hammocks and private beach. The pool and Spa are small but clean and nice. Having drinks among the ruins of the old Roman villa that once stood in the front yard was memorable and very nice. The estate is spacious and you rarely run into other guests (even at full occupancy).
The Beach 2 out of 5 Stars:
This is something that the hotel can improve upon. The beach in front of the hotel is very dirty with plastic bottles and bags washing up daily. I understand that it might be public, but it would not be that difficult or cost very much for the hotel to have their staff clean it and the debris every morning. This would make both the views from the terrace improved and add to the usability and the perceived value of the property.
The Restaurant 3 out of 5 Stars:
It seemed as if the chef was trying too hard to create dishes and there is not enough "traditional" Italian plates on the menu - especially when there is ONLY ONE restaurant at the hotel IT MUST have a better non-exotic selection of meals. (Example: I don't want anchovies with my spaghetti or have my beef filet in a cream/eggnog sauce and most kids prefer their hamburger traditional with bread - not just a beef patty on a plate ). We decided to do room service the last two nights as no one liked the menu at the restaurant. If we don't return it would mainly be because the menu and food selection was not friendly or palatable beyond one or two nights.
Room Service 5 out of 5 Stars:
Quality and food was excellent, no complaints.
Overall I will give 5 out of 5 stars because as a family who extensively travels we know that the old world charm and glamour of the hotel which cannot be reproduced easily. However if they want guest to have extended stays or return the restaurant needs more traditional Italian fare and the beach needs some love from management.
2 days holiday
Dominic Bon 14/05/2017 11:25Wonderful location, friendly staff and good food. Expensive but worth it (suggestion for "posh" guests be nice to staff and you will have an even better time). We actually had a disaster and hotel failed to load our wedding clothes into car for wedding on the Adriatic coast next day 300 km distant. They chauffeured our clothes to us overnight. Though their fault we were delighted and appreciative with the service. Thank you.
Very beautiful hotel

Regal Seaside Heaven a Stones-Throw From Rome
aliciaideason 14/03/2017 21:16Just loved this place. Seeking three days of rest + sun by the sea, before flying home from Rome, I carefully choose LPV. It did not disappoint. From Cinzia and her front-of-house team, to the quiet attentiveness of all the staff, they really just get hospitality right. Breakfast, vast, elegant, and peaceful, was eaten on the terrace overlooking the sea and a couple of fishermen on a jette. My days days, uneventful and idyllic, were spent moving around from my striped sun-lounge to the indoor pool. And back. And again. Sometimes, for no particular reason, I would wander, barefoot, through the refined castle-like house...happy as a clam...just taking in the ornate structure, rich in detail and history. The private little coved-beach was nice to look down at. Though I did not indulge, it was a lovely and nearly deserted spot. My corner room, upstairs, was large and beautifully appointed with a generous and lushly tiled bathroom. If you're in Rome, this is an especially pragmatic addition and counterpart to the hustle-bustle of the city. Early on the morning of my departure I went for a swim, only to look up and see Cinzia, who had been looking for me. It was still dark out. She was worried that I hadn't answered my wake up call. Need I say more? The driver had me to Rome's airport in less than forty minutes. This did not feel like a hotel, and amen to that. I will return as soon as I'm able.
I had planned to stay here for 20 years!
dilcrocon 23/01/2017 10:27Fantastic castle set in its own private huge park on the sea front. After one night it delved on me that I had read an article in the New York times something like 20 years ago about John Paul Getty's villa on the coast near Rome that was transformed into a hotel. Ah well there I was - this is it, very much in the shape that Getty made it. They have a private little roman museum underneath the hotel showing the remains of a roman villa. Stunning terrace and huge rooms. Beautiful park.
The resort is a mile or so from the hotel and makes you feel like coming back to this oasis of privilege that the castle is as soon as you can.
Lovely restaurant.
Although you can see the hotel from the airplane when you leave Fiumicino you can't hear the planes from the hotel, but it makes it convenient for one last night before flying home.
Would very gladly stay again.
