What People are saying

Not good for families

We stayed at the Abuelo Felix house, outside the main house. There was a porch but we were not allowed out because the wood floor was falling down, the towels were old and the toilet is outside the bedroom (really cold hallway). We had dinner and the food was actually good, but the treat was afwul, it felt like Malu was doing us a favor the whole time. The living room where they serve meals is not walkable since it's packed with decorations and all kinds of stuff. The room we stayed was ok, but definitely not a 3 star...1 at most.

Exactly as described!

Any traveller who is tired of modern anonymous hotels, which lack character, should try this experience - and a stay here certainly is an experience!
Javier and Malu have a delightful 17th century rural house and a natural talent for making guests feel welcome in it. Greetings over, you descend into a wonderland of invention and times past, and it is impossible not to relax and enjoy it.
Your hosts are professional people with a wealth of knowledge about the history of the house and the village; and Javier is an excellent cook. There is absolutely no need to travel to Cuenca or anywhere else for your evening meal, because he will produce a freshly-cooked, 4 course dinner with wine, water and coffee/tea for E20 a head. For us vegetarians, he excelled himself; using fresh local ingredients and offering recipes even we'd never tried before. Breakfast was similarly freshly prepared and taken in a leisurely fashion at a time we preferred.
On a less personal level, free parking is a bonus and ValerĂa itself is a beautifully-kept little village, with the added attraction of its Roman ruins, which are well worth a visit.
If you need a complete break from the stresses of modern life, or a relaxing stopover, while touring, then Quinta de Malu is the place to book!

Eccentrically quirky warm and fun...

This is a sumptuous, quirky and quintessential guest house set in the heart of the wee village, Valeria. As previous reviewers have said, the owners of this place are extremely helpful, amiable, and endearing, nothing is a problem, just ask. We were handed a lovely welcome drink on arrival with a yummy sweet delicacy to make us feel we were visiting friends..
So, the bedroom we stayed in was the large four-poster room and was just madly loveable with a homely grandma sense of nic-nacs and TLC, it had plenty of space to spread your wings and relax, fresh towels, soap, and shampoo with a hairdryer in the very adequate bathroom.
The meal we had on the evening at the guest house was superb, fresh homecooked and regional cuisine is always welcome, it was very reasonably priced at 25Euros with beer and wine inc
There is good walking from the village as it nestles in a limestone gorge with a river running through, we managed quite easily walking from the hostel to the nearby archaeological site which is well worth a visit.
There is a good bar across the road from the guest house for a refreshing beer or a wee gin after all that arduous walking, a fair few people were eating what appeared to be pleasant tapas and main meals at a reasonable price.
Plenty of car parking space.
Breakfast the next day was simple, homecooked and delicious and better still inc in the price.
Excellent value for something a little different and off the beaten track.

Fabulous!

Valeria's a small, quiet village which is home to a large old roman settlement. We stayed at the Casa Rurales run by Javier and Malu. What a fabulous experience it was! Our hosts were incredibly welcoming and friendly, happy to chat and give us tips on places to visit. We had booked a double room but they upgraded us to the suite as it was available. It has a four poster bed, a seating area, tv and is decorated with all sorts of bits and pieces. An absolute delight. That evening Javier cooked a beautiful meal for us, followed by breakfast the next morning which included a home made cake. We can't recommend this highly enough, it really is a fantasically different experience to anonymous and occasionally sterile hotels.

like visiting a fairytale !

We stayed overnight at the Quinta de Malu on a visit to Cuenca and the Enchanted City to the north and were delighted with our choice. From the moment Javier opened the door to us we were captivated - what an amazing home, with all their treasures.

Our room was delightful - and comfortable - with ensuite facilities. Javier and Malu cooked an excellent dinner for us, offering a choice of local dishes, and Javier gave us the history of the area. The Roman Town on the hill above Valeria is also worth a visit and the views along the gorge are magnificent.
