A good stopover on the way South on the A66/E803.
Mike Non 06/01/2017 15:01If you're heading south from Santander on the A66/E803 the little town of Hervas is a great place to make an overnight stopover or even a couple of days stay. The hotel Sinagoga is the place to stay. It's 3 star but the staff are definitely 5 star. The accommodation is comfortable and clean. There is a bar and restaurant in the hotel as usual and both are very much used by locals, which I find is always a good recommendation. The town is small but has most of what you might need or want to buy. On Saturdays there is a small street market where local produce is on sale along with the usual stalls selling household items.
As in much of Spain the hotel restaurant doesn't open until 2100hrs and even if you order food in the bar it won't be served until then. Breakfast consists of croissants, ham and cheese, fruit juices, coffee or tea and is self service between 0800 and 1100hrs. Lunch is served between 1300 and 1600hrs and there is a choice of dishes available with waiter service. The food is traditional Spanish cuisine and reasonably priced.
There is a road up into the mountain national park which is well worth a visit. On the way out of the town there is an old bull ring that it is possible to see down into although it hasn't been used for years and is closed. The views are absolutely fabulous although you should ensure that the road isn't closed by snow in the winter months as I got caught out by this hence my stay in the hotel whilst my vehicle was recovered.
Travelling through Spain
Tony Lon 27/08/2012 20:26Travelling from Santandar to Gibraltar we stayed at the Sinagoga in Hevas which is about half way of the distance. Take the exit 436 off the A66 onto the EX - 203 towards Hervas town centre. The hotel is sign posted a you come into the town. The town itself is great and ideal for familys to wander round eat and drink at the many resturants especially down the cobbled side streets. Not many English speaking people but loved the typical Spanish way of lif. The Hotel itself did have English speaking receptionist and we had a lovely room, un suite, TV very clean and with balcony overlooking the mountains close by. We pain 80 euros with breakfast. We didnt eat Dinner as we went to the town in the evening. The perfect stop over , refreshed for the drive ahead the next day to Gibraltar. We stayed at the same Hotel on our return.
