What People are saying

Our own Country House!

Jonathan Won 31/12/2014 21:15

2 families;10 people 4 nights between Christmas and New Year.
Rented the whole house which was perfect for us.
Really pretty outside in a rural location surprisingly close to Paris.
We lived and chilled in the living room which was really relaxing and used 6 bedrooms.
Bathrooms and toilets probably let the house down a bit and would have been "challenging" if we didn't have sole use.
Kitchen fine for cooking (not for hanging) and lovely big farmhouse table for eating in conservatory.
Mike's staff made continental breakfast every day and unpacked dishwashers etc.
What makes a good review? Don't know but we really liked the property and would go back to La Sucrerie and between 4 adults and 6 teenagers didn't find much to moan about.

Countryside Delight!

Our family of 14 stayed there (we rented the whole place) in June 2013. Mike and Jeff were PERFECT hosts! The accommodations were very clean and comfortable! Breakfasts were yummy and always on time! Bus stop and small grocery store nearby. They even taxied us to and from the train station every morning and evening (we didn't rent any cars since we didn't have international driver's licenses nor did we know our way around). I highly recommend staying here, especially if you have a large group! We were only there to sleep, shower, and eat! It was perfect!

La Sucrerie

We stayed at La Sucrerie with 15 family members. Mike and his staff were wonderful and very helpful as we planned our days in Paris. We were served delicious breakfast every morning as an added treat. The house is lovely, very old French manor style but also very up to date. Each room was so interesting with individual decor. The town of Chavey was charming...got to walk into in the evening, even treated to fireworks one night. Mike also was able to transport us into Paris each day at an additional charge, but it certainly make our daytrips so much easier. Overall, it was such a lovely experience!

Very spacious house, small kitchen though

The house is very nice, spacious bedrooms, lovely lounge, but very small kitchen. During the evenings, the conservatory was quite cold and the temperature was controlled centrally and could not be adjusted. The pool table is a French pool table and has no pockets, which was a bit disappointing. The house is only ever cleaned before and after your stay, not inbetween. Had a problem with ants in the kitchen and toilet on our first day, but Mike killed them when we notified him.

We hired the whole house, when we didn't need to do because the suite les Jumeaux has a double bunk bed, but the photos do not show this. I thought the house would be exclusively ours, but it wasn't, Mike's grandfather sleeps downstairs, although he was always in his room whilst we were in. One day when we were out, we came back to find out that Mike's employees wife was baking in our kitchen and thereby restricting our access to the kitchen. As Mike lives in the annex room next to the house, him and staff will occassionally walk into the house as the front door is never locked. Breakfast was ok, Mike didn't have enough food on one of the days. If you don't mind this lack of privacy, then this house is a wonderful place to stay, to relax in comfort and to enjoy time with your loved ones.

Overall I feel the house deserves 3 stars, because I didnt like the lack of privacy, which was never explained to me.

La Sucrerie

La Sucrerie is a nice place to stay if your looking for a cute b&b away from the bustle of the city. The room was clean, well decorated, and the bed was comfortable. The biggest complaint my sister and I had was we were not warned if you didn't have a car, La Sucrerie is not the place to stay. Luckily Mike, the owner, drove us to and from the train station since no cabs were available. If Mike had not driven us, we would have spent as much on taxis as we did on our room. In addition, while Mike was generous in that he drove us, he did not give us a friendly welcoming nor did he show us around the house.
