Disturbing!
Kathryn Jon 10/03/2017 17:01I'm still getting over the shock of being placed here when my flight was cancelled. On arrival we didn't register, we were each randomly handed a room key. We can't really blame the hotel staff that have to work there but this was a nightmare. My room was dirty, horrible and full of mosquitos. No mosquito net, no soap in the bathroom, electric wiring hanging out from the walls, not what you would describe as a hotel. Not even anywhere to purchase a bottle of water. Just abandoned here with no information and no luggage. Really couldnt stay there and had leave at 3.00am to find another hotel. Beware its in the middle of the docks and youre unlikely to find your way out. Apparently it has a wonderful beach, not really helpful when you need some sleep in the middle of the night. I really couldn't stick around to find out!
Review of the private beach...
Laura Pon 18/10/2013 11:41Allow me to preface by saying I didn't stay at the hotel, I went for the private beach where you can pay 1,500 cfa (about $3 USD) to spend all day. We went during Tobaski so it wasn't crowded with locals, which I hear can happen. I've been told it's crazy on a Sunday afternoon. That being said, it is many an expat's favorite beach because of the seclusion and lovely views. I rented a plastic lounge chair with a foam mat for 3,000 cfa (about $6 USD) and it was completely worth it. There are lovely large palm trees that provide shade, which is rare to find on a beach in Dakar and really allows you to enjoy the whole day without burning! There is a pizzaria on the beach, or you can bring a cooler with your own drinks and snacks. May I also mention it was extremely quiet as it is past the industrial area of town, so there's not alot of city traffic. You can actually hear and enjoy the waves. It was a great way to spend the day.
So, if you're looking for a simple hotel with a great beach, there you go.
The only place where I feel at home in Dakar
r29c29on 22/09/2011 15:19I have been to the Voile d'Or at least six time and I don't want to adulate. Its rooms are very basic, but with air conditioning and running water; the restaurant is average, except for Sunday's buffet.
Don't think of la Voile d'Or as a single building; it comprises a few bungalows, two buildings with bedrooms and, recently, a covered restaurant, everything by the sea. It has an open air bar and restaurant
What makes this hotel worthwhile is its beach and its staff; the beach is long, sandy, you can go for jogging or simply finding some relax, despite the view of docks and silos. Waiters are kind, funny, gentle, helpful; you may make friends. The owner is a French gentilhomme.
