Small hotel. Very quiet ! Beautiful home stay! Historic place ! In the middle of the lake ! Meal very good ! Staff very attentive!
If you love nature , silence...we recommend this hotel . But you have to rest and to do nothing else than appreciate the silence , the lake view , boating or if you want have a trek in the Tiger réserve. Beautiful place !

Its a sweet TORTURE - and we LOVED IT

After Pahalgam hotel, now Thekkady lake palace... I will now be seriously scared of the premium places which tripadvisor marks as 5 star also for food. This is absolutely perplexing and downright torturing to one's willpower... to eat or not. Every meal, right from breakfast to dinner, they will serve you a huge spread of authentic local food having out of the world taste that will overwhelm you to your wit's end. You will lose control for sure because that's what it’s meant for... and stuff yourself up till the point you can't move. Even then when you are planning secretly to skip the next meal, if only to suppress your guilt, you will not be able to say no to the desert and even surprise yourself some more by asking for a second helping, consoling yourself that you will skip the next meal... where this drill will be royally repeated. It could have been tolerable if you were supposed to just lie down and chill... but no, there will be free boat ride in the picturesque lake all through the day ... and the few flights of stairs to the jetty will feel like a super difficult steep slope.

The place is absolutely peaceful which has dramatically reduced the pitch and frequency of the two very hyper people, us. This quietness of the environment is only broken otherwise by the chirping of birds, monkeys and sometimes by a stray peacock sitting atop a tree. That's about daytime. From the evening they handover the responsibility of the audio to the very high pitched crickets and owls and some strange sound which loosely resembles that of the night zars.

Tiger sighting here is difficult, however elephant can be seen during drier months. There is no arrangement of the typical jungle safaris by jeep. We have however seen wild buffaloes (gaurs) and wild boars; one even came close to our balcony. Some spotted dears were regularly coming out of the jungle and grazing on the green just opposite our room, across the water body. . Also we were extremely lucky to have sighted a big black bear during one of our boat trips.

What's good about this place... almost everything... the property is well kept and impressive, the service is wonderful, there is no specific time for lunch and dinner, as they said "your time is our time" which is definitely a first for us for a place like this. It suited us well, as we could spend our day and evenings without really looking at the watches. But the service that really impressed me was the boat arrangements. Not only the best seats of the boats were always reserved for us for every trip, they even arranged a separate boat for us to ferry us back to the lake palace from Aranyaniwas ( another property owned by KTDC ) where we went for the Shirodhara ayurvedic massage experience. It was wonderful for us, esp for me, as after coming back and having my bath and the consequent overstuffing I decided to skip the boat trip and had the best noonday nap I ever had in recent times. After waking up only I realized how relaxed this massage has made me feel, though I was not very impressed at first, esp when they said that I can't take bath immediately after it. As a result we had to put on our dresses on our well-oiled bodies which were just rubbed clean (?) by using dry towels... But the personalized ferry trip that followed almost immediately to take us back to the hotel was comforting to ignore that uneasy feeling for some time. The trip was wonderful, not only because there was no waiting time involved but also due to the fact that the rain-god granted us a wish-fulfilling shower while we were in the boat. The boat trip was magical... the weather was just what we came here for...

Slow Royal Living

If there is a heaven on earth it truly is this..! If you are ready for a detox from the hustle & bustle this the destination to choose..Living in the same premises as the Travancore royalty has such a old worldly and nostalgic touch to it..and this is amply enhanced by the many tales and stories that are liberally shared with you by the staff at Lake Palace. You need to be ready to relax, listen and not wait for the next 'activity' cause..the activities that you can involve yourself in ..are a bit of sun bathing..and lots and lots of animal watching..primarily.. So dont expect every moment to be filled up..agree to let go, soak in the atmosphere become one with nature and enjoy the tranquil pace in a destination that wishes to retain the charm of slow and relaxed living.
The food is fabulous. the service is of utmost devotion and the attempt of the staff to make it and out of the world experience is commendable. This is a Heritage Eco resort and the administration takes all of that very seriously and attempts to inculcate a sense of wonder and respect for wildlife, flora and fauna which is both charming and admirable at the same time.
Its a fabulous place to connect with yourself while you soak in the nature and the bounties that this earth has offered to us minions. It may make you reaffirm your commitment to save this beautiful planet! Happy Slow Living at Lake Palace Thekkady! Our 2 days was worth every minute, every bumpy turn along the road and every penny spent. A big thank you to Pradeep and all the other staff at Lake Palace!

I stayed at Lake Palace Thekkady for a night along with my family.
It is a small and beautiful heritage property situated on an island in Periyar lake.
The boat ride from the shore to the palace is highly enjoyable. While on the boat, we spotted a few elephants at a distance and also some turtles relaxing on the shore.

There are about 80-100 steps to climb from the shore to the hillock where the palace is located.
All the rooms are of decent size and the furniture inside has an antique feel to it.
The staff led by Mr.Saji are very courteous and make you feel at home.
The view from the open area outside the room is breathtaking - a lake and dense forest surrounding the entire resort. The lawns and garden are picture perfect. There is pin-drop silence everywhere. Just the sounds of birds - we saw peacocks, kingfishers just outside our room. A little in the evening a group of gaurs was seen grazing near the lake followed by a group of sambar deer.
The next morning we woke up to see 5 elephants enjoying a slow walk from one part of the forest to another. We were informed that there are more than 1200 elephants in the forest surrounding the lake and yet they are not sighted everyday since the forest itself is so huge.

Since we were vegetarian we had made sure to inform the hotel in advance about it and they were ready with a traditional Kerala-style vegetarian lunch.
Some of the delicacies like jackfruit dry subzi and raw mango kaddi were truly unique and very tasty. Most of their vegetables and fruits are sourced from their backyard where they have planted several trees. Truly organic and green resort!
Since the palace only has limited guests they check the food preferences with each of the guests individually and prepare a menu in advance. We were very pleased with the traditional preparations and homestyle delicious food. The raw jackfruit I had at the lake palace was undoutedly the sweetest and juiciest fruit that I have had in a long time.

We enjoyed every moment of our stay and I am glad I chose this place.
