First Class Hotel for a Charity Bike Ride Event
Paul Son 14/06/2017 23:35Considering 54 riders and support crew have converged on the hotel this week as part of our annual 4 day Aberdovey Bike Ride Challenge we cannot rate the hotel and staff highly enough.
They have met our every need and even gone further than we have requested to make our stay enjoyable, friendly and as easy as possible for the organisers to manage.
Food was excellent quality and as a group the hotel tailored the food on our breakfasts and evening meals to cover foods that long distance cyclists require.
We have not got a negative thing to say about the hotel and hope we may return again on another years 400 mile cycle challenge .
Thanks to all the staff at the hotel, you made our stay enjoyable and have a high class hotel with stunning view acroos the lake.
Bliss
martello2015on 14/06/2017 20:32We have stayed at this hotel before and it has never disappeared. The location could not be better, looking down the length of this forested lake. There is much to do close by with some very good RSPB bird hides, walks, cycling, canoeing, clay pigeon shooting etc. The hotel has the look and feel of a grand country house hotel - without being pompous - and it doesn't disappoint. As it was our 40th wedding anniversary we decided to treat ourselves to an overnight stay in a premium room. The bedroom was large, well appointed and very comfortable with a private balcony and stunning view down the lake. The hotel had left us a congratulations card and some chocolates which was thoughtful. An afternoon tea was included in the package with delicious scones. Dinner was a lovely experience from a G&T and nuts in the lounge to an excellent dinner with, again, the breathtaking view down the lake. Breakfast was just as good and very filling. The whole experience was blissful and we're looking forward to another stay.
Perfect short break
Andy Wilsonon 12/06/2017 22:32We took advantage of the hotel's Vrynwy Explorer package that gave us 3 nights b&b, a 3 course meal on 2 nights, strawberries & prosecco one afternoon, a good packed lunch and entry to a local National Trust proprty. All in all we thought it good value. We paid a little extra for a lake view room which we thought was worth it as the hotel is in a great location. The room was in an older part of the property (room 6) and was large and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious too but the shower cubicle seemed disproportionately small. Everything was clean and functional. Breakfast was plentiful with all hot options cooked to order - no rubbery eggs on a buffet here! There was a good choice of dishes on the evening menu and we enjoyed what we had. Good selection of wines too at sensible prices, plus an interesting collection of gins and craft beers in the bar. We ate in the less formal Tavern on the third night but overall the hotel is not stuffy and was relaxing in all public areas. We enjoyed spending a day exploring around Lake Vyrnwy, taking in many of the well signposted walks. Apart from a couple of cafes near the RSPB centre there's not much else apart from the scenery so it was good that the hotel fulfilled all our needs for a few days. Very enjoyable.
Lovely setting relaxing and unique
Sensiblevisitson 12/06/2017 21:57My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary. We secured clay pigeon shooting on site (the two guys were really helpful) which was fun. We also had a beautiful country house style 4 poster room although experienced some noise from children in the next room which was near the creaky stairs!! Food was very well presented with some excellent dishes, both goat cheese and a mackerel starter superb. A chicken dish was underwhelming and a 'cheesecake' with a base of soggy rice crispies looked good but really under delivered, better to call it a mousse and lose the rice Crispies. Food very good value for money at £35 for 3 courses though. Some excellent wines including a couple of American wines which were well selected. Spa treatment (massage) was only too short because it was so nice and we could have had more! A nice place for a retreat. Worth a visit with couples or small groups.
Left feeling underwhelmed
Richard Pon 11/06/2017 23:37This hotel had been recommended by my parents and we were expecting great things.
Unfortunately we left feeling underwhelmed. We went a a group of four couples (we had a lake view room) some of our group had the premium rooms which were much much better. Room 21 which we were in was hot and the small double bed was uncomfortable, there was also discolouration to the walls which I guess was due to a prior leak from the roof. It just felt a bit rough around the edges. We paid a very full price for a one night stay and felt a bit fleeced on departure as the price we paid was far off quality you would expect in return.
The positives were that the views were stunning even from our pokey bedroom and the food was very good.
We explained on check out that we had not slept due to the heat and the room was not up to standard but there was no offer of an adjustment discounted deal if we returned. A bit poor in my opinion
