What People are saying

ROOM WAS A ROACH HOLE

Genna Hon 29/08/2017 15:00

First of all, let me just say that you shouldn't put a hotel room next to the garbage disposal area. Terrible idea. We had roaches come into our room from the garbage area which was right beside our room. I will give them credit for spraying for the roaches in our room while we were out, so I acknowledge that they tried to remedy the problem. I now believe that roaches can live through ANYTHING, including roach spray, because even after they sprayed, there were still roaches crawling around.

We made the best of it.

The hotel was very poor as far as cleanliness and maintenance. As soon as we got into our suite we noticed the kitchen and bathroom floors was dirty even though it appeared to be clean. So we had to wiped them down ourselves. There were no air conditioning in the elevators and hallways. In addition, the elevators had a very smelly scent. The only good part about the resort was that it was on the beach, and they had several pools all throughout that was very fun. Overall we enjoyed ourselves.

Decent, average, affordable.....you get what you pay for.

I will start with the bad to get it out of the way. Do not expect an early check-in here. Plan your travel time around the given check-in time of 4:00 PM. I arrived at noon, let them know I was there, requested any expedited check-in accommodations, but non the less didn’t get in to the room until 4:05PM. No biggie, just advising fellow travelers and I did overhear other guests stating the same. I will just add that not long ago I stayed a few doors down and arrived at 6AM, and was granted room access by 10AM thus getting a whole day in the room, as the 4PM check-in really amounts to a half day stay (at the full rate). However, time of the year may apply and I cannot speak for off season check-in experiences. Next, once inside the lobby the guest is greeted with an overbearing smell of what seems to be Brut cologne. Whatever the scent the hotel is using in the air freshener system is bad, especially if you are sensitive to strong odors. Note: there are a lot of smells going on in this place due to the pools, restaurants, bathrooms, ocean, etc…….Now onto the room, which was as advertised. Unfortunately there were cockroaches (“palmetto bugs”) visible in the room, usually towards evening. Each day we were there we saw multiple cock roaches. They were small and not full sized, but very visible. I did see extermination services on site, and didn’t bother noticing the front desk simply because I know it wasn’t isolated to my room. I know I would have been told “we are doing what we can”, and that quite possibly may be the case. I was just glad to see there were no bedbugs. The hallways on the lobby level (where we were) are a mess, as are the stairwells, dirty, stinky, wet (obviously), and gross. Again, high traffic, pools, water, lots of rain this Summer (2017), etc., I get it……but I a more concentrated effort to clean them may be needed. I did see the maids vacuuming our hall each morning, but it is a challenge. The court yard out side our room also needs attention, lots of food, trash, litter sitting within the courtyard, most likely attracting some of the insects. The pool restrooms were a disaster, and filthy. They should be cleaned hourly but lucky if it was once daily. And from what I heard the women’s restrooms were nasty as well. Take the extra 5 minutes and use your room restroom.

Now onto the good. The ladies at the front desk all very helpful and very professional in assisting me. I dealt with 3-4 different ones, all very accommodating. Parking was not an issue, huge garage across the street and a side lot next to the hotel that shares space with a city lot (which was much more convenient in my opinion). It gets a little tight at check-in out front but staff was present and it was done without an issue. The check-in process itself was easy, even though I couldn’t get an early check-in. If you do arrive early you can get access to the garage, pools, amenities, etc. The room was as advertised as were the pools. The pools were not overcrowded and were very accessible, and there is an entire indoor pool area for kids/adults (huge) with tons of room. The pool decks and pools were actually pretty clean and I did notice on-site pool contractors daily. Across the street just below the garage is an entire other pool system for kids, and adults. This pool was not ever crowded, clean, and had its own restrooms (also clean). There were activities down at the main pool during the day with a DJ, which made it fun for kids (but beware if you take grandma and grandpa the music could get loud). Beach access was extremely easy with no hassle (just be mindful no canopies or tents are allowed at Myrtle Beach, and if you want to use the beach chairs/umbrellas you must rent them……so take your own). The breakfast buffet was decent, never a long wait to be seated, staff very friendly, and attentive (it was actually pretty clean), with food mostly plentiful through 10:45AM. It was also nice having the food credit as there is a snack shack poolside with pizza by the slice (which wasn’t that bad. There is also a poolside bar with a full time bartender . This hotel is definitely kid friendly and promotes family vacationers. I stress you get what you pay for and in mid August to get almost a week on the ocean with pools in a King Suite for $1000.00 is pretty fair. If you want country club living this isn’t the place for you. If you want a higher standard there is a Hampton Inn two doors down. I would recommend this place for the budget and for those with children. The location is nice, as it’s on the South end of the Blvd., and many of these places on those blocks are comparable. It was a 5 minute drive to the boardwalk area, and 10 minutes to Broadway at the Beach, both very easy drives. Also, there is a brand new Wal-Mart Express almost directly behind the parking garage on Kings Hwy, 5 minute walk, I did it repeatedly.

Will definitely return!

I must admit, I was skeptical about staying here based on numerous poor reviews. But I followed through with my reservation and am absolutely thrilled! Check in at 6pm on a Sunday was a breeze, parking is super easy and our room is great! Is it the Ritz? Nope. But I wasn't expecting the Ritz nor did I pay for it. The value of the Landmark is phenomenal....I paid 4x per night at an Atlantic City casino resort and the room was awful when compared to our 11th floor ocean view room at the Landmark. We'll be back in 2018!

Very pleasantly pleased!!

I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends!! Everything was very well maintained and or updated. Room was very nice and clean. Pools where great!! Entertainment (DJ at pool) was a lot of fun. Lobby was very inviting and smelled really nice. Starbucks in the lobby was a nice addition! Would definitely stay here again!! Kids loved it also!!
