Room not as advertised and dismissive owner.

I have stayed in many hotels and guesthouses around the world over the years and rarely have I come across an owner with behaviour as dismissive and untruthfull as Joseph the manager/owner of The Lantern Guesthouse. I stayed for one night in an annex room across the road from the main building. Joseph showed me to the accomodation quickly walking up the 4 flights of stairs while I kept up carrying my luggage ,no slowing down, no asking if i needed help. I didnt mind this but it struck me as lacking in basic manners.
Upon check out when Joseph asked if the room was ok I pointed out that it did not have a balcony as advertised. He said I had not booked a room with a balcony only a budget room (which it was not!). Luckily I had the printout from the booking company with me which I showed Joseph clearly stated the room had a balcony. He said other people were in the room with the balcony and anyway there was a balcony outside the shared kitchen. I pointed out that a chair outside the apartment door was hardly a balcony in the room and if he had given the room that I had booked to other people why had he not told me so at check in? I said he was not advertising his rooms correctly. He then said he could give me a refund but it would take some time as he would have to contact the booking company ( I had told him at the start of the conversation that I was rushing for a bus so he knew that I could not wait).
Within an hour of leaving I got an email from the booking company saying that Joseph had contacted them saying I had not shown up to stay in the property the previous night. Why? So I could not leave a negative review on the booking website?
I would not recommend The Lantern Guesthouse. There are nicer better value accomodation available in Marsalforn which I have stayed in. Joseph needs to be more honest with his guests and realise that trying to fast talk himself out of situations when he is wrong does not work.

We stayed her with our beautiful friends, we come from Australia, we stayed for 3 nights, with 2 meals including it was just lovely, extremely clean, Joseph and his wife run it now it is a family business, the rooms were very comfortable, with the location being amazing just around the corner from everything, his mother cooks breakfast form everyone so it is fresh and delivered to your table. This place is well worth a stay you won't be disappointed!

I had the best time staying at Lantern Guest House. Joseph was very attentive from the start to finish. He was easily approachable, helpful and professional. The rooms was tidy, clean, very cute and traditional-looking. Bed was comfortable and room was nice and quiet. Breakfast was lovely, there was a good selection of pastries and cakes, and a hot breakfast (included in price) was a great touch - you don't get this in many B&B's. I will definitely stay here again!

Booked the Lantern Guesthouse for a long weekend stay, and safe to say was very satisfied! We were welcomed warmly by the host, and all the staff made sure that our room was clean and up to standard. Any queries were immediately handled. The room was adaptable and comfortable, with all necessary needs met during our stay. Breakfast was great and warmly served according to our liking. Location is superb for a quick swim by the beach, going out for a dinner or even a stroll at Marsalforn bay. Will definitely keep it in mind for our next stay. Thank you to Joseph and all staff, your positive attitudes and respect made it all worth while.. keep up the great work :)

Pleasant place to stay

I had a very good stay at this place! Room very clean and the best part is that it had a balcony, which made a big difference, the location is just in the center and even if it doesn't face the waterfront, it was a very convenient spot! I had an excellent breakfast and everyone was just so very friendly!! And I had my espresso coffee, made just for me! I had everything I asked for! I will definitely go back here on my next trip to Gozo!!
